I've opted to keep insurance out of this. For one, they'd total out the car. Two, my rates would go through the roof. Thirdly, I want to keep my clean driving record. I want the damn car, even if I would turn profit after their payout. It's my first car and it's my baby. I'm going to repair it out of pocket.

You're nuts!!! Good luck!

Wait...you expected to spend $15,000 on your first car? Wow. Take a zero off and you have the price for mine...when i got it at least.

Congrats dude, especially if you busted tail to earn that money yourself. 👍 Nothing is more satisfying than enjoying the fruits of your labor.

EDIT: Just happened to see the update about the wreck. That's horrible, and is also why I BABY my car in the rain (and why I don't like..well...why I am very skeptical when people get fast cars as first cars). V8 + RWD = not rain friendly. Keep us updated.

Yeah, I didn't bust any tail to get the money. I injured my hand a couple of years ago and finally got the case resolved which included a lump sum of moolah.

I doubt it'll ever drive the same after damage like that, repairs or not.

Why do you that? It seems to me that having the frame back to factory standards would make it drive fine. The engine has no problem. It roars as hard as it did. I've gut a busted radiator and a few other things, but the engine's fine thank God. I'm thinking it might run just the same?

Matt, it's a good thing you paid way under 15k for that! Repair money is nice:)

Well, I budgeted $15k for a car. I paid under that. After repair and labor (Which I was told would be roughly $2k) I'll be past $15k. So, not all worked out as well as I had hoped. But, I'm just rolling with it.

You're nuts!!! Good luck!

Tell me about it. Corvette Atlanta told me to just buy a high mileage one for cheap and use all my parts to put in it. That's nuts.

Have you got plates yet??

May I suggest:

So how much is this going to cost you all together, including the price paid for the car?

Well, I'm sorry to hear what happened... We all makes mistakes, it's whether we learn from them that counts. Good luck and I hope everything gets worked out. -kevin

Real Quick C5?

There is no explanation for the reasoning behind the 'code' issues to the special Georgia license plates, and the entire system was devised by idiots.

Example: Private truck plates start by "P" and then another letter indicating their weight class. PF is lowest (<30k lbs); PK is highest (>63k lbs). This of course includes "PH." So when the time came to issue Purple Heart plates, they were confounded and chose "WV" instead - for "War Veteran." Why they did not simply start the private truck plates at "PA" which would've gone through "PF" thus circumventing this issue is beyond all human knowledge.

Another example is that they did collegiate plates before all others (for no logical reason) and Medical College of Georgia received "MC". Then when it came time for motorcycle to get a prefix, MC was taken and they had to use "CY", despite the fact that there are literally tens of thousands of motorcycles and the Medical College of Georgia type is so rare I've never actually even seen one. Classic Georgia state government.

Went by the dealership today. Went ahead and ordered an entire new front clip. More expensive than I'd like to pay, but that's what I get for keeping insurance out of the loop. Cheaper in the long run. :/

It'll take around a week to get the parts to the body shop. They said it'd probably be about 2 weeks to fit the parts on and repaint it and do all the other necessary things that need to be done. I'll post up pictures when the parts come in and/or it's fixed.

So, hopefully, I'll be back in and driving my baby by the end of February at the latest.

So, I thought it'd cost me around $2k to fix. WRONG. It cost me more like $6,500 plus tax to a whopping $7,420.23. So, she's been back on the road for a while now, just haven't been on much since I've started work and school again having settled my claim and whatnot. Anyhoo, if anyone cares, here's what she looks like now. They're old pics but she's back up and running perfectly and with more miles now. :)

So does she still drive the same? Or is there some noticeable thing to it letting you know it got wrecked?

No, not really. The only thing I can tell that's any different is that you can hear a very slight engine sputter. It's hard to hear over the stock exhaust even when the hoods open. Not knowing the mechanics of cars I wouldn't know what to tell you it is. It still runs like a champ and I've romped on the gas more than a few times. I haven't had any problems with her since getting her back.

I'm glad you got it back up and running fine! I really felt for you when the accident happened. Be careful and enjoy! -kevin
