My only real gripe with GT5 (controller users)

Has anyone else noticed that the pad pretty much isnt linear steering? Whe I go full left on the stick it first goes to somewhere around 50% left, then it goes to full left after a second or so. This isnt bad on slower street cars but on faster cars that demand precision it makes driving with the controller impossible. PD should make it an option to remove this, some of us are sensitive enough to use a linear range of movement and not one controlled by a computer.

This also affects recovering a sideways car as when you countersteer it immediatly goes to full oposite lock when you didnt want it to.

Use the analog stick? Not trying to be rude, but I can't see how you can achieve any level of sensibility with the pad.

If there wasn't at least a mild assist while using the controller, to smooth the inputs at least to a certain degree, most faster cars would be nearly undrivable with a controller. It's way twitchy conpared to a wheel anyways, without such an assist, it'd be nigh impossible to get a clean lap around anything...

:dopey: indeed, I read the first part about the pad and didnt notice about the stick.

On topic: I've noticed this too, but it's all about practice, I know it doesnt help but its just the way around I found over it, pick a track you know well and try to beat your lap time with a fast car, say, the Toyota Mintola.

The steering with the stick is the best of any GT so far, and of any game, if PD change it because of people complaining, i will be mad.

Leave it alone, if it ain't BROKE!

It's perfect.

I also find it makes drifting on some banked corners impossible. The car goes sideways you put on some opposite lock and then it spins out, because the game has picked the point where it thinks is the best amount of opposite lock, and won't allow anymore steering angle.

It's speed sensitive with the stick, and always has been in the GT series (so the steering is less sensitive at higher speeds)- sometimes you need the full travel of the stick to steer on the high speed bends- can you imagine putting full lock on a banked turn at 150mph in a real car?

but I agree, its probably the best compromise, the way it is- the old World TOCA on the PS2 I think had linear steering response, which was great once you got used to it, but it was very twitchy at high speed and almost impossible to switch between the then current GT2 or 3 and the steering of TOCA....

Yeah i remember toca. Im jst saying some of us are delicate enough, why not add an option to adjust sensitivity of the controller. Same for the buttons, Ive learned how to be gentle on them but i know not everyone can do this.

I use the cross; I've got all golds in the licences, seasonals and the specials bar the Jeff Gordon cone challenges which I found quite hit or miss, literally.

I know what youre talking about. The game constanlty does active steering for your based on grip levels and speed. But It pretty much has to.

A simple and direct lock to lock 900 degree rotation in the analogie stick would be madness. It would be undrivable, but I do agree they need to make it as user adjustable as possible.
