is there any way i can fix this?

my PS2 used to be able to play my burned DVD-Rs with no problems but for some reason recently they won't play anymore.

it seemed to happen gradually because at first it started skipping during the movie and saying "can't read disk" during the middle of a movie and now it just won't even start.

Are they a different kind of disc? Different manufacturer? DVD+Rs instead of DVD-Rs? Maybe RWs? There are many types of writable DVDs, and the PS2 can't read all of them.

Maybe it's just getting old.

Besides, that's what real DVD players are for. Unless these are pirated games you're trying to play, in which case you won't find any help here.

i wasn't aware that the PS2 could play ANY burnt DVDs without being chipped.

i'll tell you guys how it goes.

Adjust your laser voltage. While the thing is open turn that white knob a few clicks and try it out. If it makes it worse go the other direction.

That fixed my PS2 and three of my friends PS2's.

Search laser voltage or laser adjustment. That should find some write ups on the topic that are floating around here.

the white adjusters alter the angle of the laser not the voltage.

we have had several PS2 consoles over the years, there are about 10 or more different PS2 models. Some will play DVD-R copied movies, ours does, some older ones wont.

If you are having problems, try giving the lens a clean.

its fiddly, you may have to dismantle the tray assembly a bit more to get better access...the cable itself just pushes into the connector.
