My PS3 died, and GT5 along with it.

I guess I liked the B-spec grinder a bit too much. My PS3 got the YLOD. Thankfully, it was still on warranty, so now I have a new unit. However, I can't describe how :yuck: I feel about starting GT5 from scratch. Hundreds of cars, the utterly anoying Top Gear challenges, stupid rally specials.. I just wont do it all again.

So, thank you Sony for encrypting the PS3 so that I cannot get my data out without trying to resurrect the dead unit, which I don't have anymore, after exchanging it to a new one. Bye bye GT5 for me. :ouch:


The lesson: take backups now!
 
Ahh gutted mate! I think if that happens I won't even bother playing GT again.. and I don't blame you for not wanting to start again, it's not the same I've got a horrible feeling that my 'station is going to YLOD soon
 
Happened to me before. Always make sure to keep a backup on a memory stick now, just incase it happens again.
 
can you still back it up after the recent updates? I thought they removed it?
 
No I think update 1.04 removed the copy protection from saves thankfully. It is annoying as heck playing Russian roulette when you own a phat ps3. I keep a 500 gig hDD next to my ps3 at all times and when I get done playing I always back up my Save Game Data. Lost over 400 hrs of Demons Soul's once I can't even look at the game now.

You can still back it up. I don't see why they wouldn't allow you to back up saves.
 
That's too bad... I don't know if this could help but I also lost my game data (corrupted file) a few months ago while I was Level A31 and B37, and I decided to start all over again, this time around without any pressure, and only by doing the events/races I liked. I got some good help from friends (shared cars, freebies, etc.), so much that I am now back to where I was (Level A33 and B40) but most importantly, I enjoy my "second" GT5 career a lot more than the first one.
So if you ever decide to start all over again, add me (psn : v-fal) and I'll help you out!
 
I would REALLY miss all my cars, but I'd definitely start over. The game is a lot of fun, even in crappy cars.
 
Btw, what will happen to my B-spec bobs who were online? The Sony servers are down so I haven't been able to log in to PSN and check.
 
I'm afraid you will lose them as soon as you will start another career (under the same psn).
 
I've restarted 6 times...I'm an expert at the license tests, all golds 3 times now. Special events are kinda fun now too (good source of money and points). Had to restart twice due to YLOD (I've got the old 'big' box) and restarted other times for level tickets before figuring out the 'fix' lol. I too now save to a memory stick after everytime I play.
 
I do a backup always, when I am using a ticket.

That must feel really awful, because Demon's Souls is very difficult game.
 
I was Sl 160 and had just about every weapon maxed out. I was horribly addicted. I am kind of glad it went out like it did due to the fact I had a back log of 8 games plus that I had been putting off while DS kept me busy.
 
well you could pay extra to have them take the data out and put it on your new system...but it's like an extra $100 or so, not worth it
 
With a PSN+ membership, there is online backup available for game saves.
 
This never would've happened to you if you had a slim PS3. But I wouldn't blame you since it generally costs more money (or does it?).

Sadly you can't. With copy protected saves you can only transfer the data threw the PS3-PS3 data Transfer utility. It is the major draw back to copy protected saves. Hell even the built in back-up utility in the XMB will only restore Copy Protected saves to the PS3 they came from. But once again it is the companys that make you pay 60$ for their software and you don't own anything of it.
 
That is why I always back up my entire PS3 on a bi-weekly basis.

had this happen, thankfully i had backed up an earlier save, and when it shut off the first time (you know before the second one when you see the YLOD), i knew exactly what was going on, so i grabbed that drive and another one and copied the game save over to both of them (as fast as i could obviously because i knew it was gonna shut off again) and got the game onto the second drive JUST before it crashed permanently.. if your PS3 YLODs, and you act fast next time you turn it on, you can still grab the data off uncorrupted! I uploaded the newer save onto the Slim that replaced it and was on my merry way with all my cars!
 
I fear my fatty 80GB may get a YLOD very soon. It's started to overheat very quickly. Time to bring out the screwdriver me thinks. :scared: (after YLOD of course)
 
just back it up ASAP.. its not worth fixing.. itll just keep doing it again and again..

PSN+ members have cloud save option where you can have backup to the Sony servers

I'm pretty sure that GT5 game saves are no longer copy protected. So you can copy it to a new PS3 as long as you are talking about a full system copy. GT5 saves are linked to PSN game tags, so you will have to keep your main profile in order to use a backed up save.

I always backup my save after every big/hard event.
Helps me sleep at night because I use old 40gb PS3.
As for the OP, sorry to hear that, you should've used backup.
