My girlfriend and I currently own both games. We are both non-bias toward either game so I will give my open minded opinion of each. Please read all of it before you reply.
GOW
The GOW co-op and campaign is 100% the same thing and it is very very fun especially with a friend. On insane it can be beat within 12-14 hours with a good co-op partner. On casual it can be beat in about 8 hours. The game is much better on insane since casual is basically a tutorial and it is very mild.
The problem with GOW is the online multiplayer. It is really weak with only 4vs4 and only 3 game modes. It gets boring very fast since it really is the same thing over and over again. We loved the GOW co-op and that was the highlight of the game. I stil play it on occasion with people to help them beat it.
Overall I would say if you dont care about achievements for GOW then rent it. PLay it on insane with a friend and you will have a great time. Try the multiplayer for a little while but more than likely you will get sick of it quick especially if you like games like RSV. You will also probably get sick of getting grenade tagged every single round if you dont learn quick how to stop them.
RSV
We beat the co-op campaign and almost finished the co-op terrorist hunt. The co-op in RSV is much much shorter than the single player. MUCH shorter. The co-op is basically a watered down version of the single player but it is extremely fun and you can play up to 4 people in both co-op modes. Again it is extremely fun just not the same as the single player.
Now here is where RSV destroys GOW. The online multiplayer in RSV is absolutely awesome. There are many different modes to choose from and more people. I believe you can have up to 14 or16 online. This is much more fun in my opinion and I am truly having a blast with this game online.
CONCLUSION
Overall I say buy RSV but rent GOW and truly enjoy it on insane mode with a friend. GOW co-op is an experience that I think everyone should check out at least once. Then play some GOW multiplayer games online but more than likely you will get bored within a week if your not going for achievements. RSV is the game that I see everyone playing for a long time. 4 player co-op options, many multiplayer options, 12-14 players online and a long exciting single player.
