Hi Folks - I used to race online around two and a half years ago with a group of really cool people i met on this forum. We played Gran Turismo 5 on the PS3 and i had many late nights and early races, sometimes before heading into work!

Anyway, around about the same time GT6 was due to launch (I think the beta had come out and i remember racing Silverstone in a 370Z) The Girlfriend and I had decided to move out of our rented house and move back home so we could save for a mortgage, so my wheel rig had to go! :(

In December 2015 and almost 2 and a half years later we got our house and work started almost immediately on the race rig MK2. It's still a work in progress but i'm posting to get some feedback and advice as i rejoin the online racing world!!

The first stop was to grab a copy of GT6 and i'm about to upgrade my P.C. so i can play project cars!

Feel free to leave me some feedback.

Thanks,

Matt

I suggest moving the monitor to sit as close to the wheel as possible in order to improve your Field of View.

If you think of the screen as a window, if you are sat in a real car and blanked out everything except for what you see through that window, and placed the window somewhere on your bonnet, your Field of View isn't very good. You can only see a narrow section of track. If you brought that window back to where you were sitting, suddenly you can see a lot more. Your Field of view becomes wider and you can see the entire width of the track.

It also ensures that your actual wheel and the wheel of the cockpit in game line up, which is best for immersion. I used to have mine set up like yours but when I built my new rig it sat like this:

Since then I've gone with triples, but the theory is still the same. With a correct field of view setting it gives you the correct perspective of speed and distance and allows you to place the car better, and also gives you the added benefit of having increased immersion.

Here are my triples now, again, if you think of it this way, when sitting in the chair, you want to treat the screens like windows. If I were to be able to place 3 windows around me while in a real car, the view I see through those 3 windows is what is on the screen. Meaning I see cockpit, the dash etc all around me at the right distance they are in real life.

If the window (screen) was elevated, and further back (like yours) then with the correct field of view setting you can only see above the bonnet and a smaller section of track.

Does that make sense?
