My simul8r clone (Finally done 8-22-2010)

After finally agreeing to do a simul8r clone
(example of simul8r's is below)

I got most of the parts and have started it. Its based on his design but all of the dimensions are made from scratch to suit an AK Rocker instead of a car seat (I like the AK Rocker looks anyway)...also adding a LCD stand table top (someone has already done this as well from simul8r's design)) to make it all inclusive since my wife has already banished this creation to the garage.

Painting most of the piping aluminum\silver and the rest black to make it a bit more fun.

Based on my schedule this may take me a couple more weeks to fully complete (and probably a month or so till I buy another dedicated LCD for it) I will use the downstairs living room 42" or my computers 23" for semi- finished photos.

Hope you enjoy.

Heres the newest...got 90% of the pipework done and glued (still wet as i used liquid nails so I could tweak things). I forwent the whole tee pipes connecting to hold on a seperate mounting wheel board in exchange for a table that will do everything I need.

Wife has banished it to the garage so i guess it gives me reason to get around to finishing my garage haaha...new man room I guess. Forgive the mess I dont clean till im done working on something.

So some drying, a little more piping, wood cutting\painting\screwing and I will be ready in plenty of time for GT5.

Nice
You went quick on this.

Yeah and it definetivly needs some paint otherwise you will always hear : "baby, don't forget to flush" ;)

Enjoy your new rig

Actually I hear a lot of..."(explitive), you're not bringing that in the house". Hopefully once she is painted and all the wood is cut to the right size\painted, it looks presentable enough to go into my computer room downstairs (wife approval required for me to get...you know)

The first pic you posted in black it's looks really cool and isn't mistaken for what the tubing comes from....

black hides the fact that it is pvc pretty well. I bought aluminum and clearcoat paint so I will see how it looks 1st, and if it doesnt look 100% awesome I will paint her black.

Had it glued, screwed some of the boards on to double check all my dimensions before painting. Feels good...but sadly I need to elongate the back platform because getting out of this thing I have to push the seat back, and since its a rocker id fall backwards off the ledge, so it needs another 8-12" to be able to comfortably scoot back before getting out.

Havent trimmed the boards to proper shape\size, or painted anything yet..so she is functional, but nowhere near done.

Also, after swapping several tvs around in the house a 42 works great if its in front of the cockpit, or a 32" looks even a little better if its on the platform of the cockpit... anything larger just stretcheds it out and makes the proportions look off.

3pm update

started painting!

Finally done. Added an extra pvc on the back on the seat floor so i could scoot back to get out easier (will buy some caps for that next time im out). I didnt take into account the room needed for my old but to get out.

She is banished to the garage right now per the wife who is threatening divorce if I keep it. lol....good times. At any rate, since she is forced to be in the garage now I have to finish the garage and buy another 32" lcd...but I still have a few months till GT5 drops so Im safe.

Easy, cheap simul8r based design.

Lookin good! I like the silver! I've just about finished mine. I really wanted to paint it grey but settled on black. After seeing this I wish I went with the grey. Good job!

Thanks guys!

Yeah I bought some extra cans of black just in case the silver was a bad idea ;-)

Sadly, since the wife banished it to the garage...now I need to buy another LCD (and probably another cheap craigslist ps3) for the garage...so she wont get much play until i get those things going.

Hahahaha, quick question though, how did you figure out the lengths for the pvc? Did you just wing it? And how high should the pedals sit and at what angle?

Sorry I didnt realize there was a reply to this thread or I wouldve answered sooner. I winged the measurements for the most part. although it was within reason. I sat down in the seat, put the pedals on the floor and measure how much room I needed and then added extra for getting in and out, a sliding seat. Once the platform was built I put the board and seat on it, sat on it with the uncut pvc coming up at the 45 degree angle and measured how deep and how high it should be with what was comfortable. I catered everything to what was comfortable (and sometimes what was easiest to make). Since building the guts of it, im starting to add on to it. Yes it was sturdy, but I am adding a 32" lcd, ps3, 5.1 system and ps eye all sitting on the table part, so I wanted to add some extra support, now its rock solid where I have faith my valuables wont fall to the floor (added wooded side posts to support the load more evenly).

ps its only a 23" computer lcd on it right now..which imo is too small, but I will have what I need before 11/2.
