Last night smoke started coming from my thrustmaster t500rs. The internal fan failed and didn't cool down whatever components were getting very hot inside the shell of the wheel. I turned it off immediately to avoid any further damage.

I have been in contact with thrustmaster about this and getting it repaired. However the one issue I have is that they want an invoice as proof of purchase. I do not have this as I bought it second hand. Does this mean I am left with an extremely expensive piece of hardware that is unusable all because I didn't buy it new?

It is still within its warranty so why should it matter who the owner is? I have tried contacting the person I bought it from but they are ignoring me. I really don't know what other options I have. I spent a lot of money on the wheel and the last thing I want is for it to just sit in the corner of a room, completely unusable.

Any advice would be great, thanks guys. 👍

They might still fix it, but for a fee and probably not a modest one. My advice would be to keep trying the person you bought it from and maybe contact TM posing as someone else to find out what their non-warranty repair policy is, if that's too expensive for you you could sell it as broken on Ebay or find someone good with electronics and get them to test and repair it. Or maybe you could get a G27 logic board and Frankenstein it back to life, that would be an interesting project.

Cheers man, I haven't told them I don't have an invoice yet so I'm trying to figure out whats the best way to go about it. It's seems like so much hassle now, especially if I have to pay for everything. There's postage as well and it's an extremely heavy piece of gear. Such a shame I'm not dealing with logitech. They would have probably sent me a new wheel by now and let me keep the old one.

Just tell them you got it as a gift from family/friend and that they've gone away for a year's sabbatical in remotest part of Quebec: Chapais-Chibougamau in monastery where communication to the outside world is totally forbidden (besides the fact the family has taken a vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience which probably means that they've already burned all their past receipts).

But in all seriousness, the company has an obligation regardless. All they need is the S/N (Serial number).

Keep us posted.
