Recently I have noticed a lot of senseless arguing and nitpicking that I think should stop if we would like to keep this a freindly community. First off, I've been noticing a lot of "junk" threads and posts. The only place these threads can go is into the gutter and thats where they eventually end up. Lately, even intelligent, well meaning, or just thought provoking threads have been driven into useless arguing. I think many users, including both the young and the old here at GTP need to recognize the feelings of each other. We all need to compromise and cut back on useless posts/threads, but also uncalled for anger and ridicule just because of ones age or ideas that may differ from your own. I think the overall mood here needs to be lightened a little, as it seems there is a feeling of anger in many of our users. We all need to remember that this is a community, not everyone is perfect, and that there will be a few bad eggs thrown in there (this is not directed at anyone particular, please do not take this personally). Please, lets all try to get along from now on, and let this thread be a place where users can post intelligent and RESPECTFUL ideas about how we can improve this forum and GTP in general:tup:.

In my straightforward opinion, this place has been on the downhill since GTF died.
I agree with you, for the most part.
But, The way you come across, is you want to completely eliminate opinions of everything.
Its human nature to judge people and things. Thats just how it goes.
Theres always been one member that hated another, and everyone knew it, and no one cared.
Theres always been one member that the entire community hated, and that person is still here...

It just depends the way you look at it.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it, and I keep my head out of anything that's a disaster.

Just avoid the obvious. and don't create the obvious.

I am all for diversified opinions here on GTP, and this was part of the reason I made this thread. This post was based on the fact that users deserve to have their opinion heard, and taken into consideration, possiblly constructively criticized but never in a disrespectful way.

But if someone comes up with the absolute stupidest thing ever.
In Example: "Kill All the Children in Russia" You can't just expect everyone to say "No, I disagree, but you can have that opinion if you like"

No, that person sucks, and should die.

Its that easy.

Of course a person like that should not be allowed here on GTP, but rarely is a post that brutal of full of stupidity.

You obviously haven't been here that long.

Josh, Punkrock, myself, we've all seen that sort of thing, and worse.

Just ask em.

Oh I've seen it, if I recall correctly, a few weeks ago a user was banned for posting two VERY racist threads here in the RS. But certainly this is not something that is common .

I'm not saying just racist, I'm saying just that stupid.

Fiat 500R with 5 engines vs a Mclaren F1.

I mean seriously...

But what about totally inane threads? I mean, if you're so bored that you're starting another "Coke vs. Pepsi" thread or another "Wihc chicks are hottt!!?!?!?!?!??" thread, then why not just step away from the computer and take a nap or read a book or practice your free throws or something?

Why display to the entire world just how empty-headed you really are?

In those cases, thats where the moderator steps in and deals accordingly with the thread. We don't need to get into an argument just because someone is bored. And I commend you for the work you put into the moderator position neon_duke, I feel you have done a very good job from what I have seen.

I agree, in essence, that we should try to abstain from posting useless drivel. However, a great deal of our membership is pre-pubescent boys with no other hobbies and entirely too much time on their hands, and too little parental intervention.

If we simply don't post in inane threads, they will eventually die.
I lieu of that, we could keep the inanity to the Test Forum.
But I swear on a stack of computer monitors, that I will never again answer another, "how do I get the girl/boy" thread.
Though, some stupid threads 'require' replies.

But, you must agree, there are users of a younger age who are capable of posting intelligent thoughts and shouldn't be catagorized as "bad posters" solely on their age. But, it can never hurt to cut back on "junk" threads, I can't agree with you more there.

Indeed. And to think it's worse elsewhere.... *shudders*

I used to have the time to dress these clowns down. I miss it sometimes. There are many new morons around and all the best moron-control-members are gone. Pity. Thank goodness for Famine, though.

This forum has gone down hill so much since I joined... I can remember when milefile and viper_zero told me off about a thread I made... I've changed since then... I'm either making posts that contribute to a thread or abstaining from a stupid thread. Give people a chance, and if they don't take it up, ban them. It's simple as that...
milefile, Your right.. other forums on the net are very poorly regulated, and AIM speak is as common as pigeons... I think this is the most organised and mature forum on the net (maybe not as mature before but...eh..) So i just hope this thing just blows over...

I'm back trying to do my part, but in the half year that I left the whole place has been over-run. There's too many idiots here to control. For every 1 you swat down, 3 replace.

I've seen this place decline a fair bit in the short time I've been here. Sure I am partly to blame. At only 16 years of age I do enjoy taking part in the odd stupid thread and making stupid comments, but I believe I also put alot of positive into the threads I frequent on this site.

Sure, some people may have only seen me in certain threads and put the label on me "idiot", but if they go to alot of other threads and forums I visit on this site they will realise that I do contribute to this site in a positive way.

Though it should be said that I've been acting worse lately than I usually do so I'll appolgise for that.

This is where some of the problem lies - at least, I think so.

Contributing positively to certain threads and forums does not allow one to justify silly behaviour in other threads and forums. The two don't balance out.

It is human tendency if one see's silly behaviour in one forum, to automatically assume all behaviour by that member is of the same quality.

Yes, I agree, it does not justify stupid behavious in other threads but some times a bit of a silly mood can help members enjoy each others company and overall enjoy the forums more e.g. do you have more fun with friends or peers by activly discussing something or by going out and having fun? But then again where do you learn more? I think there needs to be some sort of balence, not saying that the balence has to be 50/50 I'm just saying that members enjoying themselves can also contribute positivly. Do I have a valid point or is this just the way I see things?

I agree that horsing around adds to the enjoyment of the forums. However, there is a time and a place for it. I wouldnt apply to to you Blake, but overkill or trying-too-hard at being a wise guy is usually one source of problems.

The phrase - and I am refering to the general populous now - that keeps popping into my head is the one located in Gil's signature.

Wise men engage brain before opening mouth*

If people adopted this simple doctrine, many issues would disappear. And it doesnt have to be a case of thinking out each and every post. One knows when a post is going to be inflamatory. As Duke says in his Common sense rules for posting, slapping a member for posting trash is acceptable (within reason). The point is, the member in question shouldnt be posting tripe in the first place.

*Paraphrased ;)

Trash post will never stop I can assure you that Mike.. Some people will never get the point that they are wasting space on the forums...

I completely agree that the distinction has nothing to do with differences in age. Many of the more valuable, productive members are under 21. I won't name names, but it's clear who you all are to anyone who spends time on this forum.

It's not like age gives you magic wisdom or something. There used to be a member here (some would say I drove him off; that wasn't my intent but I sure don't miss him) in his middle 30s who was a complete and total idiot. He would post in clear, grammatical English, but only about 1 post in 10 was worth reading. And he posted a lot.

Oh, I totally agree with you and with duke. There are a number of younger members that are some of the most influential, and sensible members here.
There are also some "grown" men lurking about that have one brain cell to their names, and that one brain cell is pretty much overwhelmed by autonomic functions.
I hope you didn't take from my other post that idiocy is only the domain of the young. There are plenty of us old farts that are the worst offenders when it comes to inanity.

Each person that comes here has the potential to be influential (in a productive way), helpful, and to add to some of the witty repartee that we do so enjoy.

And I have to publicly thank a certain member among us who has encouraged me to speak my mind more often with the idiots, instead of politely laying out my case.
That's why I have become a bit more "caustic" toward the jerkwads at times.
Thanks Andrew!!!!:D

this is old news, there has been tons of this s*** going on since I started coming here a year and a month ago. So it is not a new problem.

From the way that's written, we could infer that it started going down hill when you arrived.

Now that we're on the new server, Jordan is re-writing the AUP and TOS. As soon as that is posted, this little down turn in the rumble strip will change.

I guarantee it.

👍 Good.

The rumble strip needs to change.

Well about 3 weeks ago I decided to leave the Test Forum for good. In fact, even the Rumble Strip, and the only reason I'm here is to suss out the Darin incident. I've been trying to improve for a month or so, and I think I'm pretty much healed. I just keep to GTA and Music mainly now, with the odd visit to the Nissan Performance Zone for a thread I started.

I've only been here for just on 3 months, and I seen how bad the Test Forum is. Frankly, the Mods' push to delete it doesn't phase me. It will get people out of that stupid mood they go into in the Test Forum, and bring some decency here again. Anyway, good luck cleaning up the forum.
