Anybody else experiencing their car "floating" into crappy positions before the start of stages on the intermediate rally special event? Sometimes its pointing me at the wall before the stage begins :nervous: also I can't accelerate until the countdown timer hits 2, seriously annoying. Apologies if theres a thread about this already.

So its not just me! I thought I was losing it. I suck at the tarmac rally as it is, even harder when I'm pointed 90 degrees to the track at the start!

I've had it happen to me quite a few times, but never to the extent of pointing me at the wall. I have also seen the car in front of me slide all over as well before it took off.

One of those generated tracks happened to loop back to itself in the middle, now that is one way for the game to confuse itself.

The cars were placed in reverse order (me in front), bumper to bumper, so the others had to use reverse gear to break free of the pack (surprisingly, they managed that part like second nature).

There was no goal line, the road just ended, and all the Bob's started banging around at the invisible side walls, as if trying to get out.

Just for curiosity I drove all the way back past the starting line, to where the road attached back to itself, and suddenly found myself floating a few metres above ground, the road had just disappeared visibly, but I could still drive and hit some invisible walls.

I had to exit that test since it would never end itself.

Man, and I thought I had troubles! I've seen the other drivers ahead of me at the start slide/drift off line quite a few times too. Not great testing on PD's part I must say

I've had the sliding a lot, though luckily it's never really started me in a bad position. There was a time where the car in front of me as well as my car drove at a kinda right angle into the side as we were lining up/the others were scooting off but we both mostly straightened out.

I have had other big bugs in the rally stages too though, at least twice had a car pretty much stop and chug around allowing me to zoom past, but once the first place car stopped partway along the course and started bashing back and forth across the road, then would do like little donuts, reverse, turn, then the other two AI cars caught up and did the same, it was like they were dancing or playing bumper cars. I drove straight through somehow, got a penalty but carried on to win by a pretty wide margin

I've also had the most pop-up issues in the rallies, shame there are so many bugs as a lot of those stages are a blast when you get used to them, and often look stunning.

Yeah the auto-generated Rally stages have some really bizarre goings-on from what I'm seeing. I'd say at least half of them start with all cars sliding and floating about the start line. I've seen one car earlier today drive off, straight into the nearest 'wall' (it's a flimsy ticker tape fence) and just stay there accelerating and reversing, then driving into the fence, then reversing, then well you get the idea.

Also - in the snow Rally earlier (Advanced), I was 1:13:xxx ahead after a few stages in my Lancia S4, then on a really long stage (about 5.5 miles) I overtook all the other cars on way to a comfortable stage victory. At the last split I was 45 seconds ahead, continued to build on that lead and must have been at least 50 seconds ahead for that stage. But when the stage finished my total time ahead was only 1:23:xxx (10 seconds gained?).
It's as if the game wasn't programmed to deal with me crossing the finishing line first and just gave me a nominal 10 second stage lead on top of what I already had.

This is crazy stuff. I know there are plenty of other issues with the game that people are arguing about, but this stuff is undeniably bad development and testing, it really has to be fixed in an update. Usually on mine after my car slides into a bad position before the stage, the car will reverse and try to correct itself, unfortunately this is as the count down to start the stage is running! The co-driver is atrocious as well, never really noticed how bad until the tarmac stages when the speeds are a lot higher, he's so slow with the instructions

Also, the map (helpfully placed in the middle of the screen :( ) insists on changing sizes between stages for me, it'll be set to 6, but appears as size 4, when I go to the menu it'll go back to the proper size. More oddness

Not to mention the map, which someone saw fit to place in the centre for the rally stages, right over where you want to see/go. Then the scale keeps resetting itself to something like 3 even though when you go to check it, it says 7, and you come out of the menu and it is 7 then. I had to switch it off completely and rely(!) on my co-driver. Then on the next stage I had to switch it off again etc etc.

Why there isn't an option to have the map in the "usual" place is beyond me. And I could go on about the ridiculous logging of best times in practice/time trial, but will save that for another thread!

Honestly I love this game, "warts and all", but it's absolutely covered in the things. If it was an amphibian, it would be a toad. But a very cool one.

Jinx!

The sliding is nothing new. If you park your car on a slope it will always start to move unless you hold the brakes. This game is not made for cars standing still :)

Btw. have to agree that these tracks are the most beautiful I have ever seen.

This issue has nothing to do with holding the brakes, it happens before you have any control of the car.

This always happens with cars driving at less than 5mph, even if you control it. Try it out and accelerate as carefu as you can and you car will slide sideways.

Nothing to do with the speed you're going dude, its before the race begins, you don't have any control of the car at that point at all.

Haven't noticed that, but I have noticed the AI seems to SUCK at snow. I won the intermediate snow by one minute, and the advanced by two minutes ... and I didn't even win gold in the non-snow events. On two advanced stages I PASSED EVERY CAR, even after getting penalties twice. And this was while driving the exact same car as one of the computer AIs (a 97 evo IV rally car with no mods).

Yeah i had the same experience on the snow rally, pretty weird. Charmonix on the Loeb Challenge is a lot harder though

For me it only happened on the gravel events rather than snow or tarmac. Was a while back now, and was limited mainly to cars "crabbing" sideways weirdly. There was 1 incident where the car directly in front of me got lost.... After being generally awkward, he was facing the barrier, so he found reverse, full throttle, and kept it in reverse for a while.... Reversed by my car and spun into another wall behind me. So I'm looking behind going "eh?" when without warning my screen appears "START" with that tone as well... I start going and suddenly Idiot driver behind sees a light, reverses a little bit and aims the way he is MEANT to be going!

Apart from being very strange, I wonder if his troubles were as a result of where my car was positioned? As soon as I moved away from there he was able to drive normally again....

Yes, but always when the road is not plain flat?

I think theres some misunderstanding about the issue. I have some replays saved and might try and post them. I'm talking about cars (yours and the computers) pointing forward and drifting horizontally across the ground while they are stationary before the stage begins, the wheels don't turn, the cars just "glide" to strange positions.
