Nascar 06: Total Team Control

i took a chance and picked this up on friday last week and it has just blown me away. i never expected to be absorbed in the game to the extent i am after just 5 days play.

all i have done so far is start a racing career and done one and a half seasons but the AI of the other drivers that i have seen so far is some of the best i have seen in any racing game. fair enough the handling is pretty basic and arcadey but you dont always want spot on simulation - you just want to get out on the track and have a good old battle and thats exactly what this game lets you do.

your first reaction to nascar will probably be 'it's only driving round in circles - it's a load of rubbish' but despite this it is not an easy game. there is more of a challenge in nascar 06 than many other 'normal' circuit based racers.

any other gtp regulars have this game or am i the only one?

I have thought about it on a number of occasions, being drawn in by the fact you can use a headset to chat and the career mode, but im thrown by the fact its nascar.

Is it really worth the asking price of 29.99?

i would say so if you have the spare cash. i paid 39.99 for it from game.

i would say rent it first just to be 100% sure but my local blockbuster didnt have it in so i guess yours wont either.

but if you got 30 quid going spare you could do a hell of a lot worse. the career mode is nicely balanced and as i said before the AI is just.....................wow

edit - also as you progress through the career mode you get to buy your own racing team! come on that should seal the deal surely

further edit - found out last night you can contact people via email during your career and have an in game version of fantasy nascar! two of you get to pick 5 drivers each race and whichever one of you has the drivers with the best performance wins. if you happen to win you get awarded with skill points which you use to unlock bonuses.

never thought i'd love a nascar game as much as this. it's takin over my life

Have to agree with you that despite the basic graphics it is a very in-depth game and great fun, especially when there are all four series to compete in.

I didn't bother much with the career side of things as I've read somewhere that it is very badly bugged with wrong stats showing up after a few seasons (which is a real downer) but just enjoy single mammoth length races (at least 50% for me lol

I posted about this game ages ago on this site (at least I think it was here but may have been Bizarre Creations forum) and everyone was underwhelmed so its nice to come across a fellow fan on here.

got mine for the PS2, the graphics are an improvement from CFTC 05, my only gripes are that on the superspeedways, if your car taps a wall its flipped over. and on the replays of wrecks, the cars get no damage, even if they slam into a wall and flip over 3 times.
