I'm really getting baffled with how this portion was programmed. Not matter how much I try to draft, the cars ahead of me always tend to get some kind of super human speed and become unreachable in seconds. During the pit road section it's always the first two cars that suddenly get that massive burst of speed, and then on the final two laps of Daytona, I get in right behind the car ahead and floor it, but he and all the cars ahead just get an indescribable burst of speed and are miles ahead within half a lap. What the heck were the programmers thinking?

I've seen videos from when the game was released when people were able to get good runs right after they got on the track, and the two cars in front didn't pull ahead for the pit road portion, and could change settings in the final two laps to draft better....but now all those options are greyed out. It's almost like they intentionally fixed it to be impossible to beat.

Have you turned off all aids including ASM and ABS just and see how you go.

It's been a while since I did this but one of the aids was drastically restricting my speed around corners from memory.

Yes, all aides are at their lowest setting possible (which is only two...since all the others are greyed out. The ABS and ASM.)

Aerodynamics low

Correction, ASM is locked on and unchangable. Active Steering is changable but set to off. There is no way to fix aerodynamics in this case, you're stuck pretty much with what the game gives you.

Yeah although ASM is locked on, turn ABS to 0 which will disable ASM regardless of what it says.

They changed it so the lowest you can go is 1. They want you to have ASM because you should dominate without it. Seriously. The AI brakes.

With practice, the Daytona "restart" event is doable, if tricky. You have to be able to stay really close in the first corner then you can stay in the draft down the backstretch. Then you can cut inside(or outside if that's all that's open) several of them in the start of the next turn. You need to be pretty close to perfect, and very aggressive, even rough if thats the only way forward. With a little luck you'll do it once you figure out how to get close.

As for the pit stop event, I have no clue, that one is just stupid. It might be possible but I never got higher than second before I got sick of waiting for the eternity it takes to get serviced in the pits. If the AI didn't park every time you pull alongside it might be more manageable.

If you run out of patience you can just pull straight onto the track in front of the leaders and get rammed up to speed. From there it's easy. Might be cheap, but so is the whole "lets force ASM on to cover for our inability to make competent AI" thing.

Pit stop one i've done the ram up to speed off of the 6th place car, but its still ridiculously hard to get to the front because the 2 leaders get super magic speed and somehow end up like half a straightaway ahead of 3/4th place :/

can catch up, sometimes get second, but never win TT'

I'm pretty sure I was able to get hit by 3rd/4th. A couple get by you but you get up to speed with nearby cars to slipstream that have all slowed down so you can let them drag you along with their superspeed out of the first turn. Think I was able to catch up to the leader on the first lap. You normally slot in around 8th, right?

I tried "kinda cheating" and getting rammed by the next group up a couple of times, but IIRC it didn't have a big benefit other than being a bit easier to get a similar start to nailing the proper blend. Once I truly got sick of the event, I just jumped in front & I think I golded it in one or two attempts(+ missing getting rammed a time or three). I don't mean pull out early and get rammed, I mean turn right the instant you get control of the car.

Luck plays a role in all of these because if the leaders don't fight and can build a gap, there's nothing you can do.

Its easy

Just drive. never lift. pull out the pit lane into 6th place. Dont drive the low grove unless the car in front does If the car in front drives the middle grove so do you till you need to pass.

What about deleting the game data? Then launch the game without being connected to the Internet. That way your not forced to update and you could do the event as it was before they screwed it up.

That challenge has been made harder. I recently retried the NASCAR challenges. They're not harder for some reason. It's a pain in the butt.

More like impossible. The last two laps of Daytona....constantly I'm getting a run that will get me to win, then a car ahead of me will shift just a enough to cause a SLIGHT brush or tap. Then OOP, DISQUALIFIED!!!

Try setting the ABS to the max.. I read that tip here in the forums and it did the trick for me (for the 2nd race, the pit stop I had actually finished before knowing this and after a million tries).

Good luck!

Tried max ABS and no difference at all on the final 2 laps. The lead 2-3 cars are still getting massive speed bursts as soon as I catch up...funny thing is they never rocket off like that UNLESS I'm nearly about to make the pass...when I'm lagging further behind at the end they always stay in the group.

I actually just golden all three of these last night after many attempts. I agree they are very frustrating.

The worst for me was Daytona where you exit the pits. The way I passed this in the end was to drive very aggressivly out of the pit straight into the racing line and then its just blind luck if you are going to get rammed, spin out or get a good push and draft.
I managed to come out and get bumped by the third place car to get me close enough to second to catch a draft of him straight away.......I still didn't win by much. I dont like this event because it just feels like you have to use dirty racing to get the gold. Not something that GT should be using.

Indy I actually found pretty easy. The rest of the field looses time on the corners. I was able to just lift off the gas for the first corner after a straight and throw the car into the bend overtaking 3-4 cars on the corner.....catch the draft of leading cars in the staright and do the same again. Definetly the easiest of the three for me.

Daytona restart was the one that felt most like real driving to me and actually required skill and precission to pass.

First thing I had to do was set the steering assist to mild.....with it off my car would wobble to much on the bends and I would loose the draft.

Get right behind the lowes car as soon as you start and draft him passed the target car on the outside. you have to be very carefull not to clip the wall.....the smallest touch and you may as well restart since you going to loose him on the next corner.

stay with him through the second bend.....he will be getting away from you but you need to stay close enough that you pick up the draft from the pack to catch them as you go through the third turn. Stay on the inside overtaking the pack and try to pick up the draft of the 5th place car. If you can do that and draft them on the long staright you can pass them for the win.

It's really not easy and took many tries.

I'm using a wheel which may well make it easier.

Hope that helps a little

The thing that was most frustrating for me was that the smallest brush against another car and you are disqualified......even if you were ahead of the other car an they turn into you. Frustrating as all hell and very unrealisitic since I would hardly say Nascar has no contact.

It's like PD never watched Nascar before comming up with these tests.

They did the same thing with the Top Gear track......why have it in the game and not have the reasonably priced car and not have standing starts.

Somebody should have explained Nascar and Top Gear to them when they were still developing the game.

Isn't there a thing in Nascar when if you are following a car closely they are getting a push from you and the air you are pushing infront of your car...... it may well be realistic that you being close behind them is giving them more speed.

drafting?

Well, I got a tip off youtube and finally figured it out. Active steering to 'strong', ABS to six, and controller and steering sensitivity to seven. Got it on my very first try with those settings...wow.

This is discussed in one of the first tier of events, I think. It's most noticeable in NASCAR racing of course, because the cars can follow within an inch or even bump without too much risk.

I'm not sure how well it works in GT5. I thought I had it work in one test, but attempts to recreate it have failed, the AI is generally just too dumb. I'm not sure if it's effect is enough to make it a better strategy than just using the GT5 SuperDraft to gain 20mph and just ram the rear bumper of the guy ahead and continute drafting, or playing leapfrog in the slipstream.

The issue in this case is that they often just get a monster drive out of the corners that you don't seem to be able to match, not only when you are right on their bumper.

The issue is, if you dont line up correctly with the car infront of you, you'll will set it "off course" and the game will hammer a DQ on you.

You need to play it like Frogger almost, swerve in and out from behind cars at the right time and gain as much speed as possible. The draft is so forgiving in GT5 you can fall in behind a car that is maybe 1-2 cars lenghts ahead (but staying to the side) of a car ahead and get a huge pull from it.

The problem wasn't so much the draft, it was finding an opening and how inconsistant the game is with disqualifying. Many time I'd thump into another car and just keep going...other times, a teeeeeeny-tiny little brush as I squeezed by got me disqualified.

I was hesitant to try this as it seemed pretty counter-intuitive in my experience, but I gave it a try since I was so frustrated and it worked! Thanks for the heads up! 👍
