Hello folks,

I see there's a lot of NASCAR interest around here - good to see. I was wondering if anyone pays much attention to the lower, touring series of NASCAR - K&N Pro Series East and West, Modified Tour, Canadian Tire Series, Toyota Mexico Series, and the Whelen Euro Series here in Europe.

This post was mostly inspired by the most recent round of the Whelen Euro Series, here at Brands Hatch in the UK, for the 2nd running of the American Speedfest. The racing was great, and several top GT/sportscar racing teams in Europe (Marc VDS, Racing Club Partners) and drivers (Christophe Bouchet, Mathius Lauda, Eddie Cheever III, Bas Leinders, Anthony Kumpen) have joined this year to really strengthen the series.

My video review of the weekend is here:

Was interested if anyone here keeps tabs on the touring series, as there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of coverage for them - and I think all have their interesting moments, and produce great drivers. :)

I've never paid much attention to the lower touring series here in the States, but I had heard about them. To be honest though, I didn't know NASCAR had any sort of European presence. Considering how little coverage the touring series get in the US even with the popularity of NASCAR, I wonder how much attention this Euro series gets where NASCAR isn't big.

There's a definite hunger for it here in the UK, the attendance for the American Speedfest a few weeks ago at Brands Hatch was huge - one of the biggest for the year at Brands. It seems strange that the touring series don't get much coverage when NASCAR fans around the world want local NASCAR touring series.

I've seen a few of the Road Course races in the Lower series at the proper venues, and some of the NASCAR Mexico ones. Obviously most of us watch the top tier, because it gets the best coverage and I too wonder why some of these other smaller groups that are related don't though.

It's some highlights, but Matthias Lauda won the very first wet oval race in any NASCAR series. Of course, 400hp and a fairly flat oval makes it a lot easier for them to race in the rain.

Also helps that Michelin is competent at making (rain) tires.
