Hey everyone, I was checking out the new NASCAR cars and fiddling with the weather system when I spotted something I hadn't noticed before. Treads? On the wet tires? I had looked for it a couple of times during my past photoshoots but I don't recall ever seeing it until 2.00 came out. Anyways, so I set up a couple of shots. Check them out.

First, the slicks.

Second, the inters (which NASCAR has never run and looks like the NASCAR full wet tires)

Last but not least, the full wets.

The difference between slicks and intermediates (which I might add, NASCAR has never run in the very few sessions it has run in wet conditions) is quite obvious. From inters to full wets, doesn't seem like there's any difference.

Still, however, I thought that was one very nice detail to add in, being a NASCAR geek. :)

Also, I haven't tried taking photos with different cars and tire combinations to see if there's differences with them.

No they don't they did once in nationwide and never did it again.

They haven't had the chance to. Some of the Nationwide teams at Watkins Glen opted to bolt on some of their rain equipment before the race started because there was a decent chance of rain that afternoon but it didn't pan out.

But yes, Nationwide series still will go to rain tires if need be.

Yes but they've only been recorded use at Montreal

Edit: Like you said they haven't had the chance to do it at Watkins Glen.

Yes, they were used at Montreal, but they haven't had any wet conditions to test them out in since.

That's what I'm saying  that's why I said only once geez. If someone beat you to the punch it's alright. You taught me something about watkins glen and I accepted it. Anyways glad to help the OP and second poster.

Whoops, my bad. I interpreted your first post as saying that they had discontinued the rain tires. Nationwide has not. Sprint Cup has for the moment though. Some BS about the sanctity of the championship or whatever.

Well I guess if they have Rain tires then they should have textures :D but they don't have a windshield wiper, do they in the rain after the patch?

No, they still don't have windshield wipers, but it is much easier to see out of the windshield in the rain after 2.00 came out.

Really that was the reason they gave? Wow that is a stupid reason. I heard that tire degredation with rain tires on nascars is quite high and makes it unsafe to use them

It seemed to be a point a few Sprint Cup guys took when talking about the possibility of running in the rain when they were delayed in Watkins Glen a few years ago, but not the official position of the sanctioning body.

Also, if going by Montreal in 2008, it seemed the opposite was true. Teams even made it to green flag pitstops and a few teams here or there decided to leave their initial set of wets on.

They talk about it a little bit here

And the beginning of green flag pitstops, with a myriad of strategies playing out.

Well seeing as how nascar acts now days it doesn't surprise me. Especially this year with the way drivers voice their opinion towards other racing series like F1.
