Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, my search turned up nothing useful.

Can anybody provide any tips for golding this test (I'm using the PAL version in case the gold time is different, 53.700)? My best time is a 53.844 and I just can't seem to squeeze anything more outta that slippery beast of an RX-7. I've tried every conceivable racing line through Hohe Acht and Eschbach catches me out frequently, but when I manage to lay down a clean solid run, I'm still a couple tenths off.

I noticed in the demo of this test, the demo driver is flying through parts of this section on the ragged edge, almost drifting through some of the corners. I cannot match his driving style, I prefer more subtlety and control than just mashing the pedals like he seems to be doing.

This test is driving me nutty :banghead: I can hear the sound of that RX-7 autodriving through Karussel in my sleep! Though I now know this section of the 'Ring like nowhere else on Earth! :) Any tips from the Gold Masters welcome!

EDIT: Sorry, it's the National A Graduation Test, not B. I realized my mistake the moment I submitted the thread :guilty:

Well I'm no expert (42 golds so far, rest silver) but I did gold that one after many, many tries. I don't remember anything special that I did. Just hit all the apexs and kept the speed up as much as possible. As far as I can see there is no trick to it, just practice.

^^^ similar boat to you bigjoe. 47 Gold, 1 Silver on IB 15, and havent started the IA and S yet (started my second trip through the game using the DFP exclusively and going for all golds obviously)

anyways, to answer the topic question:
there's a button you can hit on the A and B licenses to bring up a dashed line for you to follow - it indicates braking and everything. I think it's L3 or R3....
that should prove helpful. I turned it on to get a feel for that test - but turned it off when i 'golded' it.

edit in another tip: You mention you've watched the demo, but have you done it with the ghost on? after doing a quick run (you mention a 53.8) go and do so. Compare how the developer's line compares to your ghost's line and note places where they are faster. You dont have to mash the controls like they do, but it might indicate where the car is capable of greater cornering speeds, etc

Try trail braking. In other words, brake later and continue braking while entering the turn. This technique is very useful all around the Nurburgring and is a key part of golding the harder licence tests. As someone else mentioned, turn on the driving line so you can follow it as you go and see the brake and accel points. I believe you push the select button to toggle it on and off. Once you gold it, man up and keep doing it until you can gold it 6 or 7 out of 10 tries without the driving line activated. Once you can do that, you will own that section of the course forever and ever.:sly: Good luck.👍

I have gold on this one. Think I'm even faster than the demo run.:D I actually won in the last 2 corners. Take them carefully, at the limit, and you should have the gold. For the last left hand corner, brake early, go slowly into the corner, and hit the throttle quite late again. Then brake hard again for the last right hander, don't hot the throttle there too soon either, and you'll have the gold medal.:)

I still have 42 golds, 38 silvers, but haven't played GT4 anymore lately.:)

It's R3 with the default controls. That test - I had trouble with, because either you are going too slow, or you are off the track. Left-foot and trail braking does help. I silvered it after about 8 runs... havent targeted gold yet. I mean, I have only a week's experience with GT4. Gold in GT3 came after 2 years...

Yes you are right, it is R3. Thanks for the correct info as I couldn't quite remember.👍 I knew it was one of those buttons at the bottom of the DFP.:)

Yeah I've done that. Generally the AI demo guy gains a fraction in every turn. As far as I can tell, it's due to the fact that he's overaggressive in most turns, pushing the limits of the car's grip more than I am able (or willing maybe) to do. It's the "almost drifting" approach I mentioned. Basically I struggle to get a feel for the car in this test, particularly without TCS. I usually drive without TCS anyway, but this car is a bit wild in the tail and doesn't seem to like transitions; neither are good qualities for the 'Ring :nervous:

Try trail braking.
Yeah, I trail brake 80% of the time on this test, it helps stabilize the tail-happy RX-7 going into turns. Only problem is coming back on the throttle is a very careful process, and considering this section of the 'Ring has some very diverse corners, learning this car's behavior is difficult because it changes from one turn to the next.

Well from my sig I you can tell I have PAL, but then in the US version M34 is a tad harder. Swings & Roundabouts.

Woohoo!

Isn't it just typical that you struggle with something endlessly, post for help and tips, sound like a noob doing so :dopey: and then on your next try you slam it? Finally managed it after 3 more tries over the weekend, with a whopping 53.508, 3 tenths better than my previous best time (after about 50 attempts). Go figure. The really annoying part? Aside from taking a slightly faster line through Hohe Acht, I can't see anything else I did differently. So much for the learning process :sly:
