Welcome to the second of the National driver threads. Please nominate your favourite Scottish driver.

Any Scottish driver is eligible for entry. Dead or alive, past or present, any form of racing.

Call me unoriginal, but I'm going to nominate Jim Clark. One of the most naturally talented drivers ever, able to push many different types of car to their absolute limit with little training. Twice F1 World Champion (and it could/should have been more) and successful in other formats too.

I'll nominate Jackie Stewart.

3 world championships in 99 races. Won an F1 race at the Nurburgring Nordschleife by over 4 minutes. Also his influence doesn't end there. F1 is "safe" today because of Jackie and his campaigning for safer tracks. He had a to fight a lot of resistance who said that the danger was a part of the sport, but it couldn't go on like that, losing 2-3 drivers a year.

Right, who is going to nominate DC & Colin/Jimmy McRae? Alan McNish? Dario Franchitti (Yes, he is Scottish!)

First person I saw rallying on TV and had me hooked, as well as being a great driver. He also challenged Schumacher, which gets him extra points and I have to mention the Colin Mcrae Rally series, the most succesful rally games ever leading ordinary 13 year old boys to think they're rally stars and be able to understand what "6 left" and "crest" were when flying down at over 120mpg.

David Coulthard.

He has done so well considering he has spent most of his career playing second fiddle. Granted he was number 1 at Mclaren in 02, 03 and 04 but look at Ferrari..He was one of them drivers, never quite made it to championship glory but with plenty of races wins and points he wins my vote with ease. Also, in the "new generation" of motorsports lovers (as in people who started watching motorsport in the past 10 years) i can only think of 2 Scottish drivers whose names will roll off the tongue, Colin Mcrae and David coulthard.

Well, I'm seconding the Jackie Stewart nomination. He certainly is a legend not only in Europe, but worldwide as well, and certainly brings about the notion that you would need to be a true "man" to handle many of the cars of yore. His talents have continued to go beyond his racing carrer, now that he is training the young drivers of tomorow, and for that we should all be thankful.
