National Honor Society

Well I've just been inducted into the National Honor Society. 👍 I started this thread to see if anyone else here on GTP was a member of this group, and what are the requirements for it.

At my High School you need to have a 94 or above grade point average. (That's all classes, not just academic ones ) Last year it was only academic classes, and I think you only needed to have a 93 or above average. This means I'll have to try extra hard to keep my grades up, and let's just hope I do. :)

at my school, most people in that are morons whose parents just have them in a guillatine.

i hate my school. it's full of fake people who are full of themselves.

They put me into NJHS back when I lived in Houston... I would have been put into NHS if I had stayed there for high school. There's no equivilent of it in Canada. Either way, it was a joke for me to get into. My grades were in the 70's and 80's and the teachers were calling me a genius... my only A's were in science and my computer classes.

Up here, the closest thing to NHS is getting a scholarship that pays more than $1500... I guess acceptance into Waterloo University's engineering program also counts since they require you to have an average of 92% or higher and they also look at your extracurricular activities, community service, etc.

Yeah, those scholarships and Universities like Waterloo are absolutely insane to get into. And about half of the people in my classes are probably going to schools like Waterloo and McGill. I'm getting sick of being surrounded by people who panic if they get 80% on a test...

I'm sick of the people already in university who panic for anything less than a 90%. They don't plan on getting into the co-op program and they plan on moving into law school sometime in the next 2 years. Law school only requires an 85% for the very best school. The only thing they need to worry about is their LSAT's, but nooo, they gotta whine and complain about having too much work to do for school when they have the 4 easiest courses available in the IT program at my school.

I'm in NHS. I think our requirements are the same as yours...A average in your classes. It's kind of funny, though, we don't really get anything special for it. We got to help staff Open House and lead tours for parents and 8th graders.

They're in for a big surprise if/when they get into law school.

 Most people drop to at least a C average upon entering university. It's a well known fact, and they should know this... or maybe they were too busy studying in Grade 12.

And out of curiosity, where do you go to university emad?

I'm in NHS. We don't do much 'cept for some charity work, fundraisers and maybe a trip to a college. Then again, we're a pretty small school. It looks good on the college applications.

Ryerson, I'm studying IT Management.

In terms of difficulty, the program is a joke for half the courses, and it's next to impossible for the other half. Of course, my law school friends are only taking the classes that a 12 year old can pass with flying colours.

I'm considering a switch to Business management because I'm starting to like Marketing more than IT... It probably won't happen because of my phobia of accounting, finance, and numbers in general.

Cool, I might be going to Ryerson in September! I got my offer of admission for Aerospace Engineering on Friday. Unfortunately, from everyone I've heard from, engineering is not anywhere near as easy as the business courses. It's a ton of work apparently.

I've got a bunch of friends in the aero program at Ryerson... and a bunch more in civil at UT. They like it, but first year and the first semester of 2nd year are very difficult. Expect to spend roughly 40 hours a week on studying and homework. After 2nd year though, it's a breeze apparently.
