NBA 2K13 is mere weeks away from release and stands to be the best basketball game ever released, so I've made this thread for a place to discuss the game and your happenings there in. From what I can tell it's mostly 2K12 with refinements which suits me fine as 2K12 was a great game in need of refinement and added content never hurts either. One thing that really raised my eyebrow is the shoe creator. Apparently it's insanely complex and if you want you can create a shoe in the game and order one for real from Nike. I bet it costs an arm and a leg though.
I read the MyPlayer has been expanded even further, so that should be a lot of fun, and I'm really looking forward to my new Raptors, got some new players with a lot of upside, so Dynasty mode for me will be great too. One thing that will suck though is in 2K12 I had a pretty killer line-up with huge depth and both Bargnani and DeRozan had attained all-star skill levels plus Nash had joined the team, so I'll lose all that, even though Lowry will be better than Nash methinks.
So, who else will be getting it and what are you looking forward to?

I think I will stick with 2k12 I think with this series and the others ( NHL, madden fifa) they should just do a large update to the roster and work longer on redeveloping the game( like a new game every 2 or 3 years) plus I am really not a Jay Z fan or a fan of his music any more. So ill stick with 2k 12

I'm buying this one for sure since I haven't played a 2k game ever since buying nba2k7. I still love that game so this is a huge upgrade for me.

My only issue is figuring out to get this for xbox or for pc since mods are available. We will see.

I had 2k12 for both the 360 and PC. The PC version was only 29.99 compared to the 60$ xbox version. The xbox version though did run much, much smoother. The PC version kind of had some framerate issues. It wasn't bad enough to ruin the game, but it was bad enough to get on my nerves. I was just going to play the PC version, but some friends wanted to do the online league on the 360 so I got it too.
I never did try to install any mods on the PC version because I gave up on it so fast after getting the 360 version because of the framerate hiccups. I don't think it had anything to do with the PC I use either, it's a pretty decent setup. The only 2 games I can't max out are arma 2 and the witcher 2. That's just because witcher 2 has some messed up ubersampling that nothing can run, and arma 2 has a really, really far draw distance setting that I doubt anyone can max it out with everything turned all the way up.

I think I will grab it for xbox, more comfortable on the couch. I have a feeling I'd spend more time fooling around with mods and tinkering with things instead of actually playing the game.

Just been seeing some of the stuff new to MyPlayer, absolutely insane. I play 12min quarters so I don't know how I'll have time to do both MyPlayer and Dynasty with the Raptors. Looking forward to it though, maybe this time my MyPlayer will get on the Raptors, something I could never do in 2K12.

I have to laugh at the 98 rating for a player who doesn't show when it counts/when is needed by a team. A tough job to rate the players though and keep fans happy, so it is what it is.

NBA 2K13 PLAYER RATINGS

I have to laugh at the 98 rating for a player who doesn't show when it counts/when is needed by a team. A tough job to rate the players though and keep fans happy, so it is what it is.

I assume you didn't watch last year playoffs where LBJ almost single-handedly (no Bosh for majority of games and heavily injured Wade throughout) won it all for the heat (and it's coming from someone who is not a fan of forming superteams).

He is by far the best player in the world at the moment and I can't see why 98 rating is unjustified.

But back on topic. I'm dedicated NBA2K guy since 2k3 and AI on the cover. So I was witness to amazing evolution this game went through all those years.

What I want from this years version? Less CPU "clutchness" at the end of the shot clock on higher difficulty levels, better charging mechanic, intrigued by new iso-motion, quick stats/hot/cold button remapped to UP on dpad during gameplay instead of camera change, better double team defensive AI , not glitched shot chart at the end of the games and no more black hands from some of the coaches (I'm looking at you Rick Adelman).

Besides those small quirks NBA2K is one of the very few video game franchises that never let me down and I sincerely hope that will not change in the future. :)

I watched the playoffs & my statement still stands. My opinion of course, a very talented, but overrated player in reality & in videogames. Definately not the best player in the world, to which I'd never consider, given those in the league he plays with that have better skill &/or more overall game. Again my opinion.

Apparently Jonas Valanciunas got a 59 rating which irks me a little. For a player who's touted to be worth in the top 3 of this year's draft were he drafted this year, they gave him a rating that would put him smack bang in the back end of the 2nd round of the draft.:odd: I see plenty of other over rated players too, such as Jason Kidd being an 80. *Sigh* I suppose I'll be starting with MyPlayer anyway, maybe a roster update will give Jonas a better rating.

Don't worry , Jonas Valanciunas will have probably higher rating in released
game. Ratings that were leaked in that video recently are very old and not accurate.

I wouldn't count on anything higher than 68-64 though. He is 20 years old prospect and had lots of problems with fouls and defensive assignments while playing on Lithuania's olympic team. But if you want to start association mode with Raptors, after few years you'll have a true bomb squad with so many A potential players.

I played demo yesterday for a few games. Game will be great, shame there is no alternate controller settings because I don't know how many times I went out of bounds with some fancy dribbling instead of going for a dunk in a paint.

No "suction" animations while driving to the basket, at last you can lose your defender (when you have good matchup like LBJ vs Perkins) with good dribble moves. Can't wait till next week.

Favourite thing in demo? Blocking! Playing with Ibaka on defense was splendid. I got 3 blocks in one game and only thing missing was Mutombo finger wave.

Australia finally got the demo and I just finished trying it. Maybe I don't "get" the controls yet as they seemed over complex to me and didn't make a whole lot of sense, but I'm definitely not impressed. Graphics seem to be a step back again, and player models are even worse (IMO Durant doesn't look like Durant, James looks less Lebron-like than he did in 2K12). Plus defence seemed non-existent except for constant over the top pwnage blocks. I couldn't stop anyone from waltzing straight past me, and it seemed pretty easy to do the same to them on offence. Plus players seemed to move in slow-mo.
I hope this is just because I don't really understand the new controls yet.
Edit: So now that I've become more familiar with the new controls, I'm still un-impressed with the new game. Defence is rediculously impossible to play (i.e. doesn't seem to matter what you do the ball will go in) and it still feels like I'm not in control the majority of the time on offence (I couldn't even get Bosh to run in and dunk it in a wide open lane, he pulled up for a jumper....which he missed). For those not concerned with new roster line-ups etc. sticking with 2K12 would be a much smarter option.
