College sports fans know the NCAA better than the NAIA. That is, unless you go to an NAIA school like Georgetown College in Kentucky or (I believe it's one) San Jacinto College here in the Houston area. According to a report by the ever-speculating collegesportsinfo.com, there could be plans for these collegiate rivals to merge into one under the NCAA banner. A recent example as an analogy would be Champ Car's merging with the IndyCar Series. There was past speculation that the NCAA was thinking about a new Division 4. Division 4 would be for mostly no-name schools (at least in the minds of those who couldn't care less about anything that isn't Division 1) to all come together as the NCAA. A positive would be that a series could quickly go from one division of the NCAA to another. An example was that Oklahoma City University was thinking about coming to NCAA Division 1 despite a moratorium that disallowed teams from changing divisions up until 2011 at the latest. Locally, Houston Baptist University was trying to merge back into NCAA Division 1 to make it a four-way Houston college squad. HBU is a non-football private school home of the HBU Huskies.

It seems a bit like a monopoly to allow NCAA and NAIA schools to merge. I couldn't read much more into this deal because the rest of the article requires a subscription. But, I'm sure you get the general idea. Do you think it's good for both the NCAA and NAIA to merge?
