In my "sophomore" year into football, I liked NFL action, especially my hometown Houston Texans. But when I got into college football, I like the atmosphere. You know, a college band that isn't half-bad, loud fans exhibiting their school pride, and all that stuff.
Personally, I like college football over college basketball (which as I hear, has yet to have a decent college basketball title). You won't find and Michael Vicks, Brett Favres, or Ricky Williams in the game, but you will be able to play some good old-fashioned Saturday action. You can play teams like the USC Trojans, Miami Hurricanes, Ohio State Buckeyes, OU Sooners, or Sugar Bowl winners LSU Tigers. You can also play lesser teams like Prairie View, Penn State Nittany Lions (Joe Paterno is anything BUT lesser), Grambling, and even Harvard. You can even play my hometown team, the University of Houston Cougars.
The game may be pretty old, but it provides an incredible college atmosphere. When you can't get into racing 24/7, try a little college football. NCAA Football may not be Madden NFL, but for the ones who prefer well-known names of today, go get Madden. But if you like American football period, you'll like football PERIOD (comma) go get this fairly old game.
There are a few slight issues, but none too major. For example, after a kick, the net used to catch a ball seems nonexistant after the kick. When I designed my own college team, one of my team players was looking at something at random, but unfortunately looked at one of my user-created cheerleader's butt (is that a negative issue, John?
). Sometimes players on field will have ploygons tear through another person (after all, it's just a game). But other than that, this game is pretty solid. Since the 2003-2004 NCAA Football season is over, some of the stats will be outdated. You look at Ben Roethlisberger of Miami (Ohio), the University of Houston Cougars in their 3OT loss against the Hawaii Warriors in the Hawaii Bowl, Joe Paterno in his final season coaching the Nittnany Lions of Pittsburgh, and more.
So, this is a must-get for the football fan. Only thing I may have not found out yet is if you'll be able to play in the Hula Bowl or Senior Bowl after the season is done. So, this is one of those "if you don't have it, get it now" games. And thank EA Sports for a good job.
