My What?
Currently in the middle of a project and a part of it involves sports and which ones I like, the only one I really follow closely is racing, so I need your help fellow GTP members, I need a video preferably under 5 minutes in length which highlights why racing is a sport and will hopefully convert all "none believers" to the dark side :p I'm well aware of the various videos by Youtuber antti2phoenixbird and the fantastic "Racing in Slow Motion" series, but those are all a bit to long sadly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you want something a bit blunt and raw:

This video is amazing just because there are so many things going on - from the sheer brutality of a rally driver chucking a car about to the calmness of the co-driver flicking through his notes at the same time. I like also that the start of the video sort of settles the viewer into assuming it looks a bit easy...before Colin starts chucking it into the corners!
The audio is great too - hearing the car scraping the ground and sliding about is awesome.

It would help if you could explain what the project is and the audience.

I guess the biggest thing to focus on (assuming this is comparing motorsport to other sports) is the thrill of being on the edge. I don't think many people would argue that football or basketball...are really about being on the edge, they are generally about team work and pacing yourself..mentally keeping yourself in the game.

In motorsport its about using fear and going beyond it, taking a corner and trying to go fast when you think you shouldn't or can't. Driving a car or riding a bike to a point where you know you are barely in control. Of course, confidence breeds speed, and for confidence you need to know the car/bike is going to do what you expect..but it still involves a great deal of commitment.

Probably the best video to put that across is any Isle of Man TT video:

Show them Hammond's run in the Renault F1, that will give everyone a good insight of what it takes and why is it that it is a sport.

You could use a clip from the movie "Fastest", there's a part where Rossi and Lorenzo are talking about the battle they had in 2009 at Catalunya. Here's the clip of the race, it's much better the way it is edited in the film though especially the way it switches between commentators from all over the world.

EDIT: I've just found a clip of Martin Brundle talking about the physical and mental effects of racing a Formula 1 car.

A great insight into how physically demanding a racing car can be.
