Need Guidance - Looking for the next toy. 80-early 90's.

Born in 83, so big + for an 83 car. Live in the US.

Gran Turismo 2, first racing game, and played countless hours on it. I think because of that game I have this weird thing for 80-90's cars. I'm not a huge car guy other than liking cars. I can change an alternator, little things like that, but pulling heads, even changing my own oil on a regular basis, that's just not me, right now.

I'm ready to buy my next toy and just not sure where to even start. I'm looking to spend about 10k. I would prefer something AWD, doesn't have to be incredibly fast, just fun to drive. I would probably end up driving it to work a lot. I would want something that parts aren't impossible to find or cost half the cost of the vehicle. Im not really wanting to mod it a lot I would prefer it stay as stock as possible. I know of most vehicles I'm just not sure on availability, reliability, etc for those desirable cars of that era. So I guess my question, any recommendations?

Currently looking at an 81 Celica Supra with 77k miles, 1 owner.

What country do you live in? Awd from '83? Oof! ur-Quattro(Audi Coupe Quattro) is probably the only one you're going to find with performance. Other than that, off the top of my head, Subaru GL hatch & sedan and Brat. If you live in the USA, might be better off getting a small pick up or Bronco II. I think Toyota and Honda had awd Tercel and Civic wagons. I can't remember the years they came out.

If awd is not a must, Maybe an '83 Mustang GT(carburetors), Celica, Supra, RX-7, or anything you can get your hands on. You're spoiled for choice in both decades. Audi 4000CS Quattro, any Volkswagen, Acura Integra, MX-5, Celica All-Trac.

Yes, US. It doesn't have to be an 83. I've been looking around for a Celica All-Trac but I rarely see any come up for sale. Most that do are extremely high mileage that have been modded a lot. I would love to have an Audi Quattro but again, I never see any for sale. RX-7 I would probably be looking for an 89', it seems most 90' are convertible, and I don't want that trouble. Not a huge fan of the earlier body style. The rotary scares me a little big for ease of working on it.
 
You might have a hard time finding an AWD car from the 80's in the US. There weren't many unless you want a truck or SUV, which if you do there are a ton of options. But I'm guessing that's not the direction you want to go.

An old Celica is an awesome way to go. I've been looking for one for myself too. There was a convertible one for sale here in SLC recently, but the engine was toast on it and I don't have anywhere to rebuild it. I'm not entirely sure how they blew up a 22R engine though since they're pretty much indestructible.

If you're OK with something German, a Porsche 944 could be another option to look at.

Ok, cool. I really wouldn't bank on mileage. I gave my step-son my '98 Mitsubishi Mirage hatch(like the Cyborg w/o the turbo), 350,000 kilometres and driving perfect. Check out Prelude, MX-6 GT, 323 GTX & GT. Maybe go for any car low in price that's not popular. Those cars are usually, the unexpected fun ones.

Also, the market goes in cycles. A 240SX might not have the appeal it did 10 years ago. If it still is popular, go for the older 200SX or 300ZX.
