best thing i've found is logitech z506 for $80. No digital input though so it will only be simulated surround sound via rca plugs. I donn't even know if sound will come out of all 5 speakers. Can anybody recommend anything better? speakers will be mounted on the rig. Maybe a small cheap home theater system? what are you all using? would you recommend it? sale ends saturday so quick feedback is appreciated.

-would like 5.1 digital surround
-price must be competative to ^

Go to Ebay and search for "Spherex Xbox 5.1 system" These were originally made by Mirage and are excellent and I mean really excellent. Some of the best surround I've heard. They were originally $500 but I bought two of them when there were being blown out at CompUSA for $99.

You can still find them from time to time on Ebay still sealed. Trust me, its an amazing system and they use to come standard on the VRX rigs.

Why not just wait a month or two until you have another $70-80? What's the big rush? Too many people want something right away, even if it's junk.
That simulated surround sound is trash, especially for racing when you want the real effect of car behind/beside you. Go ahead waste your money.

dont come around here posting stuff that makes sense ok!?.. I don't know, I guess i'm trying to do all this as cheap and quick as possible. the thing with the logitech is that its on sale right now, $20 off.. so i was going to get that, but if theres other options (other than waiting and saving) i wanted to know. My initial thought was to get something cheap, so i dont want to spend that much money. my rig is going to be made out of wood, i'm using a cheap lcd that i've had laying around since 2002, and i dont even have a seat yet. I have the g27, and the lcd tv.. i need the sound, and the seat to get it all together. but i guess youre right.. for about 120 to 150 i could probably get a true 5.1... thoughts?

Post your budget, it will make it much easier to give advice. Sign up to logitec web site they email you deals. I bought my 906 from them for half price.

im signed up with them for months now.. never got the discount and bought the g27 from amazon.. my budget is $100 but i dont think its going to happen

Sorry to be so blunt about it, there was just recently a very similar thread in which I commented with essentially the same question.

I still recommend the same thing for your situation. I know you want a cool 5.1 speaker setup, but I'm telling you take it easy on your plans, build your cockpit nicely and use a pair of crappy computer speakers for the time being. Then buy the "True" surround system in a couple months and you can enjoy decent sound for years.... also better for DVD's and BluRays...

There are plenty of ads on Craigslist and so on from people who are upgrading and selling their old stuff, usually get something better like that them buying brand new.

i have those same logitech speakers that the OP mentioned connected to the 5.1 decoder box from my tritton ax360 headphones. it works great and its nice and compact to fit my rig and sounds incredible. what i would recommend is to find a stand alone decoder so you can connect the speakers from the ps3 to the z506 using digital optical input and connecting the speakers using front/center/rear inputs that the z506 can plug in to. im sure if you connect the rca's to the speakers you can probably put the ps3 to output dolby dts and it should create virtual surround sound. either way the sound will output from all the speakers regardless of the type of input. i tested this with some music plugged into the red and white rca jacks and it came out from all 5 speakers. good luck.

THE sony bravia 5.1 5 disc dvd player is going for around 135. Usd now. It is a nice system for the price. I have been using them for around 2 years now.
It has optical input as well as hdmi input and outputs.
Id reccomend it if you can stretch it. I am planning on picking another up to use in my rig when I build a new one soon. ( wife wants a bathroom remodel first. )

Thanks for all the replies guys. I think i'll wait another month and get a better sound system. I'll look into that sony mentioned. If anybody finds any good deals or can recommend something, please keep posting.

might be overkill but for £130 new you can have a 1000w DAV-DZ330 5.1 system which is really good for the price, not being funny but its 10x better than logitech sound :)
