Need help finding a movie (Killer Robot)

I've been looking everywhere with no luck so I figured GTP might be able to help.

What I can remember about the movie was there was a killer robot controlled by a white guy with dreads and a trenchcoat. I think it took place in an office building or something like that, and there was a group of people trying to escape from it. The only way the robot could be stopped was to constantly hold down a button on a remote that the guy with the dreads had. In the end they somehow locked the guy and the robot in a room with an enormously large and thick door and the guy couldn't hold down the button anymore and the robot killed him.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've been trying to find this movie for a really long time.
 
Can you remember which decade it came out in?
 
It's not anything recent but it wasn't too old looking either. I'd guess that it came out sometime in the 90s. I wish I could remember it better but I saw it at least 5 years ago.
