If it's out of a "79 or 80 Mustang", it's a 200. 85hp of great vengeance and furious anger.
300 I6? They all look similar though. The only way to know is to rip it all apart and check the casting number on the block.
If it is a 200c.i. motor it will have 5 freeze core plugs on the side of the block and a casting code of: C5DE-H
300 I6's were used primarily in light truck / van applications. Ford also made these engines for industrial and agricultural applications as well. If it is as ghsnu says, that the engine is of '79 or '80 vintage Mustang, then it would be a 3.3 I6 (200 c.i.).
I think MustangManiac is on to something here. There is no need to "rip it all apart". A simple look at the side of the block, and getting the casting # should reveal what you are looking for.
The 250 was just a stroked 200 so they look nearly identical. You can id the 250 by the low mount starter and it has a six bolt bell housing as it shared the same housing as the 302/351 Windsor V8's.
I know what it is. It's a boat anchor.
I'm absolutely impressed by the way you guys can tell different engine variants apart, just from the small details 👍👍
To me, they all look like Mustang engines![]()
Got to love the shaker 👍
