Need help. Newbie with unusual problem

First i've searched the forum with no help. So heres my question / problem.

I've been playing GT5 for a few weeks now (offline) and recently decided to connect to the net. As usual it said the latest update was found so I installed that. Now that i installed the latest updates I am unable to race in A or B spec races. Instead of loading the race it goes to a black screen for 15 sec then puts me back where I select the race I wish to enter. It loads the practice races fine and also the license test fine as well. I'm very sorry if this is a common problem/question I was unable to find the answer by searching the forum.

I'm a newb and not a huge PS3 player if you have answers please explain this to me like I was your mother.

yo umay or may not be hitting the wrong button. try X to select. as far as i know pressing O will send you backwards.
 
Try playing on different profile or u could start the game new by reinstalling the game worked for me

I was thinking about that, I just hate to lose like 65% of my game progress.

Im hoping I can just uninstall the updates, I just dont know if that'll work and how I'd do that.
 
Before uninstalling anything try simply cleaning the disc, theres a lot of info on there and the slightest smudge could cause a read error
 
Worst comes to worst, uninstall the game data then let it reinstall. I wouldn't want to be doing that though :-/

Save your game progress on a USB flash drive & then re-install the game on your ps3 - same profile. Then download your game progress.

OK Thanks guys. I'll look into saving things to a flash drive. That sounds like a good way not to lose my game progress. I'll post my results/solution for future people with this problem.
 
I think your problem is with the updates. Weve had so many and you going right into 2.01 is causing problems. You gotta install each update starting with the first. I dont know how u do this but people on here know. Ive seen threads about it.
 
well just reinstall it but save a back up of your file on a usb flash drive. then reload up the save data. If it still doesnt work youll know that its the game save thats the problem and youll have to start over
 
Best advice is to just start a new psn account for online play and then you can send your self all the cars to your new account with out any of the trouble of using a any external
 
OK I uninstalled the "game data" and re-installed it and every things working fine. I havent installed the data thats suposed to shorten all the loading times for the tracks, cars, photos, etc.
 
If you have trouble doing general A/B spec races, then what about removing the data of your newest update and re-install it all over again? Updatings can sometimes accompany misleading matters that cause problems in some part of the game, toying with your PS3 can make the matter worse far from resolution of your question.

I load it so it will stop showing me the "Do you want to download this?" window every time I go into the game.
