Need help on dirt tracks!

ive been practicing at the dirt tracks ever since ive started this game, and my 4 favorite dirt cars are, in order of favorites,
70 dodge charger 440 (General lee orange :D)
05 mustang
83 nissan fairlady
dodge ram .
my favorite is the general lee, as i call it. but, unfortunately, its the hardest to handle on the dirt track. i know there are cars that are alot easier to use, but i want to stick with this one. does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it a great dirt racer. im ok when it comes to transmission, but not much else, and i need help. thanks :)

Generally one wants a dirt car to be relatively soft and high - but the Charger already is pretty much like that.

What would help, I would think, is for you to provide your assesment of the handling and what you want to improve. Since I am probably safe in assuming that not many people have a Charger dirt setup they could just give you.

hmm. well, the charger is really tough to handle on dirt tracks. generally, it doesent turn the way you would want it to in any situation. in some places, it is going forward AND sideways, and there really isnt a solution to stop it once it starts doing thta. braking just slows it down, but it still wont turn away, and it loves to over steer right after you brake it for a hard turn. the track i test it on is the swiss alps normal, and i have all the best options you can buy for it. a rollcage might help it with the oversteer problem. when im braking for a turn, liek the one right after the bridge on the swiss alps course, it doesent have any understeer problems. it just tends to spin too much once it starts accelerating. also, any suggestions on what to do to win the grand canyon course? that one is way different from the swiss alps, and i tend to get left behind quickly on that track.

Try taking some of the power off. More power makes the car harder to handle, I think, If your issue is that you can't take a turn, try increasing your sliding angle. I took my Mine's out yesterday and for fun was using an angle more than 90º. (facing gackwards). Ate up speed, though. Maybe your charger isn't great for rallying. The subies and other rally cars were like cakewalk as soon as I decided that my Elise wouldn't be a good rallyer.

ok, thanks! hmm, yeah, you might be right with the power thing, because my ford mustang gt works alot better than my charger, and it only has 400 hp, wjile my charger has over 600. what would be better, supercharger or NA? i think supercharger would be.

i guess, i need to make the handling more solid, and more predictable. its pretty much what you would call erratic and way too loose.

face it, it's american, you will never be able to get it to handle well. sounds like you need to practise actual driving in order to tame that POS

Being American has nothing to do with handling. Look at each car individually. American cars tend to be strong in the power department, but don't rule out every American car.

4WD helps a lot when dirt racing.

You said you are Ok with the transmission, but does that include an LSD?

I recall a friend who had built a 1000hp+ skyline in GT3, and it handled like a shopping cart on ice! Checking the settings I noticed he had skipped on the LSD, so I fitted one, made a few other changes and then it stuck to the road.

no, i havent messed around with the lsd at all, i tend to stay away from those kinda settings. hmm. i noticed if you take all the driving aids to 0, the car spins on the startup, so i set the bottom value to ten. any suggestions on settings for the limited slip? and, the car handles alot better without the supercharger or racing exhaust, but its about 10-20 seconds slower. i added the exhaust again, and it made the handling dificult. maybe a smaller volume exhaust, like sports.

what kinda time you setting in it, i use my charger and/or chevelle on swiss alps all the time just for the fun, the best lap i hav recorded is a low 1:38 with all the upgrades fitted but not much done to the set up cus im just plain lazy personally i pump the accelerator during the bends to keep the back in check without sacrificing to much speed, but i dont really know how slow/fast i am in comparison to others. american cars may not be good on rallys but theyre good fun :D

Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Turbo '98

A nice, cheap 4WD car you can tune to 871 bhp and decimate everything on the dirt tracks.

I wouldn't really use muscle cars for rallying - If they'd be that much better, they'd be using them in real world rallyes. Having just 2WD on dirt or snow ruins the entire point of the excercise for me...

i think he uses muscle cars for the same reason as me, its just so much fun sure its not the fastest way round the track but its so much more interesting.

yeah. ive won alot of rallies and have alot of pro rally cars. its just more fun using the charger. i dont think many people get the whole "Dukes of hazzard" idea here :( nyway, i bought a brand new one and did little to the engine, and it works like a charm, but gets in the 1:40's. im gon a try to use optional engine upgrades, but leave the trans and cages alone.

and moneywize on the game im not limited. ive won enoguh races to have plenty of money, and alot of extra rally cars to sell if i need to. 4WD is great for when you really need to win, but its just not challenging.

I decided that my Elise wouldn't be a good rallyer.

That's a very good example of people with different driving styles. For me, my Elise has turned out to be my absolute best dirt and ice rally car! I also like the RUF BTR for this purpose, as well as the old Lancia MR rally car.

For the Elise, I keep one with Stage 2 NA and all the other tuning goodies (277hp). Here is the general setup (very easy)

HP: 277 (NA tuning plus all the other engine tuning options available)

Suspension: Racing: Jacked up all the way on both ends, Springs as soft as possible on both ends, shocks at 3/3.

1.5 LSD (the only Elise I use an LSD in is my off-roader)

Wing with 15 front and 30 rear downforce.

Full lightening and stiffened.

That's about it.

Oh, stock tranny is fine. I always use racing brakes, triple plate clutch, etc...

I can drive that Elise great on dirt or ice, but can't drive a normal 4 wheel drive rally car with a darn....

i use the BTR myself on occasion but generally i use my Chevelle, it just looks so good on a rally track, and its a challenge to drive (and not spin out all the time) as you'd guess a 1970 chassis, 700+bhp and dirt isnt a grippy combination.

lol. mines top horsepower is usually about 600, but i try to keep it lower. i never thought about NA tuning, just supercharging...ill try that later! any suggestions about cam and toe, and all the spring settings and ride heights?

as i mentioned before, all i did was lower it and change the spring rates down but it worked for me ok.

hmmm...i actually like raising mine some, seems to help it on the jumps and bumps...but that might be part of the problem with the turning...maybe a happy medium would be good.

My vote is for you to not worry about the engines HP as much and consider low down torque, real life rally cars have alot of HP admitedly but a hella lot more Nm...the reason for this is it gives them power to the ground and it also means the engine dosent nesercarrily need to be pinging off the rev limiter..

hey, i tried something that mysteriously never came to mind b4...stage 3 NA tuning:dunce: it worked like a charm! didnt screw with the handling, and just made it faster and more fun! btw, dragonistic...the chevelle is fun to rally with! cause its shorter, its easier to handle than the charger.

I hate rallying in this game so much, like more than Lima beans!

I used to play with the Cuda and the Charger and the one thing I noticed is they both were better when left stock. The only think I did was add the pro suspension so I could tweak the sway bars. I don't have times for you, but the charger wasn't that hard to handle, I do remember that lowering it made it a bad bad car to corner with. 👍 Hope that helps.

Low end torque IS NOT good on dirt with rear-wheel drive. I LOVE my RX-8, but it's only got 200ft/lbs to break loose with.

Hence, the stage 3 NA tuning is more effective. I don't like supercharging unless I'm low on cash. Or I'm putting together a road-race RX-8, as it winds up with something resembling torque.

Once again, I hate rallying in GT4 but your talk of the Charger on dirt made me take it back onto the Grand Canyon..... This is what makes it fun - Hangtime....👍 :)

You can almost taste the moonshine.....
