Need help picking out a laptop

I just went and bought an HP dv6 6c35dx and hate it. The touchpad sucks, the software to change the sensitivity for it doesn't work. The speakers are suppose to be Dre Beat speakers ( I know they are junk and all) and they are absolutely horrible. I didn't realize it when I bought it but the touchpad is off centered to the left and so is the keyboard so when you are typing the screen is to the right some and it drives me crazy. The screen is also just awful. The colors are so far off, and no amount of me trying to tweak them helped. I really have nothing good at all to say about it.

Anyway, what are some good choices in the U.S. for around 600- 700$ give or take a few bucks. I will mostly be using it to write papers for college and browse the internet. I would also like something that could maybe play a game or 2 in between classes. A dedicated GPU would be great, and so would some decent speakers so I can here videos or sports while my kids are watching cartoons in the same room. I don't care about brands, just whatever is the best bang for the buck.
 
Just buy some cheapish bookshelf speakers and you'll already have an improved experience over the stock laptop ones. Most laptop speakers are just put in there as an afterthought to add something to the feature list.
 
This laptop is in your budget and will play games. It has a fast dual core and the new Geforce GT 630M graphics card. I've actually read that it has a physical switch so you can switch between the integrated graphics on the duel core and the GT 630M to help save battery life. Comes with a total of 6GB of ram and a 500GB HDD. The laptop has a set of 2W speakers in it. It seems like it's a sign that it's a higher quality speaker but a tinny speaker in a laptop can be a normal thing to see. I'm no expert on speakers but I've seen good 2.0 setups in a Dell laptop model before.
 
Is there a way to actually adjust the color on laptops? I've been messing with this one and still just can't get use to this keyboard being off centered.

How does thos one look. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246151 It's got the keys off centered like this one, but it seems like all the decent ones are like those except for macbooks. In all honesty though I really don't think I can get over these keys being pushed to the left like this. Maybe I would eventually, but right now it's driving me crazy.

The one I mentioned has the same keyboard layout. Though the one you mentioned is deactivated. So you mean you would rather have the trackpad positioned in the middle? So far I've found this laptop, and this one are all a bit more centered. It does seem like an off centered keyboard and touch pad is popular. So your choices seem rather limited for what you can get with something a bit more centered.
 
I ended up buying the one I linked refurbished from newegg. I'll just have to get use to the off centered keyboard and pad. It seems like almost all decent laptops are like that now. It drives me crazy though, because when you sit down to type all of your keys are moved over one key to the left. Don't really know why they would make them like this. I would much rather not have the numeric keypad and keep my typing keys in the center, or at least put the numeric pad on the left. It's kind of like they are all setup for left handed people now.

The one I bought should be pretty good. Got it for right at 700$ and it should be a pretty decent laptop. I don't know how the GT555m is as a GPU, but it has to be a ton better then onboard graphics. The CPU looks to be a pretty good choice for laptops also. Only thing it's really missing I would have liked to of had is an SSD, and a 1080p monitor, but I can do without 1080p on such a little screen.

It has some decent JBL speakers too and yes, that GT555M should be powerful enough for gaming use. Check here for more info. :)
