Need Help with car problems

I recently bought a 1970 Dodge Challenger. During the race I used it in, something was wrong with the engine or something. The car has around 530 HP, but stopped increasing at 123mph. It would go to 123mph and then coast to 121mph and then the engine would rev up to 123mph and then back down to 121mph and so on and on.
Does anyone know why the car is doing so?
Any advice would help

That's called the rev limiter. All cars in GT5 are fitted with them. Keeps the engine from blowing. Drop 20k on a racing Transmission and extend it to a higher speed. 180 to 200mph range should be good.
