need help with corolla heat shield

hi i have a 03 corolla that rattles a lot when stoped and ive found that the cause is the heat shield over the headers has rusted. my question is can i just remove it or would that cause other problems and would it be better to replace it. thanks in advance.

Car will run fine without it, but it's there for a reason. I'd look around for a replacement.

What we sometimes do at work in this case is take a metal hose clamp (or put multiple together, if it's too large) around it and tighten it up. That doesn't always work but it's worth a shot before trying to find a new one.
