Hi everyone.

I am haveing trouble trying to find out how to setup up my graphics card to my new pc. I have put the card in the computer but have not been able to find anywhere to plug the two power cables for the graphics card into.

The PC is a HP Pavilion p6-2160ea Desktop

Graphics card - Sapphire ATI Radeon 11179-17-21G HD6870 OC Graphics Card

I'm not sure whether I need a new PCU to power this card too. If so would this be ok Corsair CMPSU-600CXV2UK Builder Series 600W Power Supply

Thank you anyone who can help me out here its really appreciated I know nothing when it comes to computers :dunce:

Thanks

Yes purchase the new PSU. Your computer's PSU won't be able to power the graphics card. So you need to replace the PSU. So for now remove the GPU and wait for the PSU to come in the mail. When you get the new PSU, follow these instructions(A bit outdated but it's the same thing), and you'll be fine. First things first though, click here and download "Catalyst Software Suite". That comes with the latest drivers for your new graphics card. You can paste the file onto your desktop and install it after you install the new GPU. Also you should remove the old PSU in "Step 2" and install the new PSU in "Step 3". Let me know if you don't understand something.

Thanks for your reply.
I think I will buy the pcu then, and I will let you know how I get on. Thanks alot.

edit: I have no trouble plugging the card into the motherboard. I was just unsure about the power cables.

If I were you, I'd invest in a better processor as well. With a good card like that, that processor is bound to be a bottle neck.

^ He'll be right. If there is a bottle neck, the chances of him loading down the system enough to make it prevalent are 1 to none. :)

No, it would almost be a complete waste of money. He would be better off taking half of the money that would be spent on the processor and putting it into the graphics card.

i3s are very capable processors. I doubt the bottleneck would be large, but there will be somewhat of one dependsing on the game.

I'd also agree on that opinion. 2nd Gen i3's are well designed and you will be able to play games like Battlefield 3 with a medium to high end GPU. I would not do something like a HD 6950 but what he purchased is reasonable.

Exactly. A 6870 isn't the biggest bit of beef to hit the planet, so in all honesty, like I said, the chances of him using it in a way that will make the system chuck a hissy fit will be very slim.
