Whats the point of doing this on purpose? I've finished more than once not 0.01, but 0.001 of difference between the 1st and 2nd in a GT5 online race, and now it's the same.
The 'One Make Prius' race is a good place to try for this trophy, catch the leader and coast along side him all the way and over the finish line making sure the nose of your car is ahead by a hair. 👍
I was able to do it in an online 500pp race with the Elise Race Car '00 vs. an X-Bow R. They we're equally matched and we always had photo finishes, and one of them had that result.
Although I do recommend you try a single lap event in Matterhorn Short Track with a friend online in a boosting lobby, or if you don't boost, do it in arcade mode.
It's easier to make it with fastest possible car. I did it with X2011 Prototype in arcade one-make mode on Indianapolis oval track. 0.01 sec is very low value to be able to make it on slow cars.
Well my advice would be just play the game and do not try to get the trophy. You will get in in the course of racing if you use cars that are not strong enough to always win by a large margin.
I got the trophy a few days ago running the dream car race at Willow
I did it on Like the Wind, Race 3. Crossed the line about two feet in front of the Veyron, 0.007 seconds. A full car length is too far, you'll need to cross the line next to him, with your bumper just a foot or two ahead.

Did it within about 15 minutes. And I finished two times by +0.001 (not kidding ) and one time by +0.010 and finished first with a -0.014, -0.015 and -0.017 gap. (With DS3 controller.)
Just get AI behind you on last lap... block him repeatedly until he pushes you over the line
I on the other hand decided to swerve at the last moment to the right, pull the handrake and turn left right into his path right at the line going about 140mph on Fuji .... good enough for .002
I got a serious question, why do people care about the trophy thing? I have never understood this. It doesn't really show skill, it more shows how much time you have spent playing. And especially when they force trophies by getting them illegitimately. I'm not trying to bash anyone or start any type of war, I just have never understood this mindset and want to know.

- Have a car that goes 400+ km/h (Bugatti Veyron, Pagani Huayra, Red Bull, etc.)
- Become first and "lift" until the car on seccond position is coming to you
- Stay on the first place (just) at the finish line
