Need some help, please!

alright, I know this has been asked and asked and asked...but I need something here. Alright i'm using CudaMan's drift set up for the Mazda RX7 Infini-III (FC) and it gets sideways..but I CANNOT keep it sideways. I've tried everything from my madcatz steering wheel to using both joys sticks on the controller to get more prescise controll..and nothing. I try my darnest to get that throttle steady...and nothing. I either spin out well..spin out. I've been practing for a good 3 weeks now..I know I should alteast beable to do some small drifts easily..but nothing. I use the Feint Motion to enter the drift..and then when I do get the car sideways..it just spins out. So please..I've read all these faqs and I've searched for help topics..and none of this happens. I know you guys say to practice,practice,practice and I do practice..all the time..but my practice isn't going very well...:banghead:
 
Well....if the ONLY problem you have so far is spinning out, here's my advice....

First off, try loosening up the rear springs and stabilizer (roll bar) a bit. This should give you some more traction in back so you don't spin out so much. Then...I'll suggest dropping some horsepower. This should also help you in not spinning out, and it lets you learn the techniques better.

And....Remember: everyone has their own drift style, so everyone has their own settings. Don't be afraid to tweak settings that other people call perfect. Personally, I've taken a liking to stock suspension & LSD with a bit more hp and some drivetrain mods (clutch, flywheel, tranny).

Finally, I have another bit of advice, though it is a bit more drastic. I would suggest trying out 4wd/awd, since these cars don't spin out so easily. However, there's a big drawback to this. If you do go off and drift 4wd, you may have a tendancy to spin out alot (again) when you go back to rwd. If you do go 4wd, I'd suggest Evo or Skyline. The Evo's a LOT lighter, but some people like the fat-assed cars ;)

Well.....Keep up the practice...it only gets better, I promise.

well....................i think it ain't the controller it just the amount of gas u give it


i won't suggest a AWD as being ur first drift car because u don't learn the throttle control u need in a FR car and its very easy to spin out on a awd

Try another car, s2000, RX8, RX-7(FD), MR2 these cars are much more stable and much easyier to drift for beginners. The Infini-III is really not a biginner car. You might want to lay off the feints for now, just enter a corner slowly and then power slide out this will give you practice with throttle controle. When you figure that out then learn how to Feint.

Well...the whole point of suggesting an awd was to make it easier.....as in not needing perfect throttle control to drift. And....awd cars don't spin out easier than fr. In fact, awd cars are much easier to keep sideways. Since the front wheels also drive, they can help pull you out from that insane angle that you're trying to get. So, if you go a bit too far, just give it a little gas and the rears stop smoking while the fronts pull you forward and back into line with the road.

But anyways.....the new car suggestion is good. I'd second the FD and nominate the NSX. These are two of the most stable cars out there, so they should be pretty good to learn on.

Well....some of us just aren't as good as others, and we just have to deal with that, huh (just messin ;))

But if you do start out with awd, just remember that you won't be able to go as far sideways with fr. One good idea would be to get the VCD and make ur awd car more fr-like.

But...as I think about it more.....I would have to reccommend the NSX just one more time. That thing is just cool :D

I started with a FC, and I had no problem with it. I agree that powersliding is an easier way to start out learning the precise throttle control needed. If you spin out, try giving it less gas. On the controller how do you have the configuration? I find its easier to control the throttle and brake if you use the right analog stick.
 
Yes, thats what I use, the right analog stick for brake and gas. Thanks so much for all this info, i'll defintly switch out to an easier car. I do have a replay saved that I did some really good starting drifts with my EVO V, maybe If I can get it off the t.v. i'll put it on here and we can go from there. Untill then, I'm going to go practice with some of these new cars..and hopefully get the hang of this. Thanks so much for helping!
 
gess what i started with A TRUNEO/RX7 FC/240 Fast Back
I think the Fastback is a good starter car thats what all my friends i teaching like to use. And so is the Trueno it seems to be a good car to start with too
 
hm...

I think that when someone starts out, they should try to drift the BMW 328i first. It is not a bad drift car, but I have not seen anyone recommend it yet ;) Also, the car is not that hard to drift since it has a FR layout and the power is always there.
