Since last June 2010, I have been having massive Vertigo problems. Very dizzy, sick feeling, weak, and just disoriented. After many visits to the doctor and now specialists, it has been diagnosed that I have a massive sinus infection. This has created inner ear imbalances and the Vertigo. Anti biotics only helped a little but the area just under my eye is 100% plugged and will not drain properly.

So February 9th 2011 I am going in to have surgery to remove the blockage. Surgery is a couple hours and recovery will be 3-5 days. Hopefully this fixes the problem because it pretty much ruined my summer last year. Couldnt lift heavy, couldnt ride the quads, couldnt road track race. It was a misreable summer and is not getting any better with medicine.

My mum had a similar problem a while ago, the operation was relatively simple. Hope it solves all the problems.

Sounds like fun dude! But it obviously should be worth it!

Thanks for the feedback and support. I will keep everyone updated after the surgery. The good news is that this surgery is the same week Test Drive Unlimited 2 comes out. So I will get a couple days off to enjoy it.

Update:

Wednesday the 9th
They preped me in the recovery room with some nasal spray and set up an IV. Asked a few questions then about an hour later I was rolling out for surgery around 10:00am.

I wasnt nervous at all until they wheeled me into the operation room and there were at least 7-8 other doctors in there. Machines were everywhere! Much more complicated than what you see on ER, or House or any of those shows. This room was insane looking. Then they put me on a little tiny table barely the width of my shoulder blades. Instantly start hooking stuff everywhere to my body. Then seconds later I was out. Surgery was about an hour or so and then another hour after that I woke up.

When I woke up they asked me on a scale of 1-10 how my pain was. I felt great so I told them it was only about a 2. So I went back to the recovery room for about an hour or so and then went home for the night. Left the hospital around 2:00 pm. Stayed up all night until about 1:00am and went to bed. Felt great.

Thursday
Woke up feeling quite rough and took my pain pills and antibiotics as prescribed. At this point I noticed my top front teeth have moved a little and my upper gums are very swolen. Keep in mind they broke my nose for this procedure. So I contacted the doctor and he said it was normal for my teeth to move because of the excessive swelling.

Friday
This day was my worst so far. I went to bed at midnight and slept until noon the next day. Ended up getting a high fever, got very cold, then later ended up sweating really bad. Lost an entire layer of skin off my top and bottom lips. Then got up for a few hours and went back to bed again. Slept for at least 15 hours on Friday. Very rough and painful day.

Saturday
Today has been pretty decent. Pain seems to be managable. Teeth and gums dont hurt as bad but nose is still very swolen an tender.

They had to break your nose? That sucks! My friend works for some ENTs that invented (according to her) this balloon-surgery where they just drain any blockages with some kind of special balloon and tubes, etc. But hopefully your problems are solved and you make a good recovery.

Surgery can be very interesting. The first time I had surgery they asked if I wanted medication to help me relax, which also makes you loopy then puts you out like a light, and I said yes. The second time I didn't realize I said yes the first time, so it was quite a shock to actually go into the operating room with everyone standing there and not remember it from the first time.

Anyway, hope you have a comfortable and quick recovery, and that you will now be able to do more of the things you enjoy! :)

Here is hoping your days get better and better bud, it sucks to be convalescent. I hope you recover soon.

I'm scared of surgery, the thought of having people playing with my body parts isn't good.

Wish you luck. :)

Thanks for the feedback and support. Last night sucked really bad. The pain medication just was not getting rid of the pain at all. I even doubled the pain medication with no luck. So finally about 4:00 am I gave up and decided to try some Excedrin that I had for headaches and pain. Took it and within 15 minutes started instantly feeling better. However I ended up all wired and cracked out from the caffeine. So now I think I will just take the Excedrin during the day and the other junk maybe at night.

I have an appointment wednesday to get the splints out of my nose. So I think I might go back to work wednesday or Thursday. But we will see.

If it hurts too much, then I would suggest you to go the Emergency Room. Anyways, good luck! :)

Update
Yesterday I went to get the splints removed. By the time I got in it was severly infected you can only imagine the pain involved to remove the splints.

What I did not realize was that the stitch went THROUGH my septum from one splint to another. And that stitch is actually a fairly large gauge string. Not a normal stitch string. So when he removed that the pain was unbelievable. He had to pull it in a very fast motion to get it through the septium. I did feel a lot better once the splints were removed.

Today I decided to go to work but think I might just go back home at noon and come back to work on Monday. Still feel a little bit like a zombie and might just be jumping the gun a little coming in this soon.

^^^ Ouch... I'm cringing, just reading that.... But I hope all is well now. Sounds like a pretty hefty procedure in the end. Best of luck to you and hope you recover quickly!

It sounds hurt, feels hurt, I have a major ulcer in my mouth - in fact there are 2 of them resulting in me in deeper feeling of your pain now. Get a good rest mate!

Ouch.

My mum went through a similar thing years ago... All i can tell you is that things will get better and you'll be glad you went through a few hellish days.

I've been operated on several times. I've broken my wrist (both bones, fell over a stair railing and landed on the floor below), Ankle (you know how when you're a kid on the swings, and you swing as high as you can and jump off? I botched the landing) Coccix(sp? your tailbone, skating accident that went seriously wrong, I was in pain for 6-7 weeks, although in this case, there were no operations), Nose (fight in a nightclub. Enough said).

It can be quite scary when you get wheeled into the operating theater and see all the equipment and people.

On a side note,

I also cut a finger off and had it reattached. Playing guitar helped with the rehabilitation, however I was told I'd regain all feeling in 6 weeks, nearly 8 years later and it's still not came back fully. I've dislocated my knee (no surgery, just "gas and air" and a paramedic popping it back in). I've also had stitches on several occasions. Three times on my head (twice due to falling on glass as a kid) twice on my right hand (once due to broken glass in parks, once due to barbed fencing) and several other scars all over my body that I didn't go to hospital about... Probably 20 or 25 in total.

I was a really clumsy kid. :sly:

In all seriousness, I wish you a full and speedy recovery. When my mum suffered from this, she said it was hell. Soon, it will all be worth it and I hope you can enjoy your summer.

Having gone through this earlier this year it will definitely be worth it!

Had the septum broken and reset, small piece of bone cut from by the eye socket, top turbinates trimmed and diathermy on the lower ones (to allow drainage).

4 ops in one go and 36 hours on ward afterwards. In my case they left the stitches in and told me they would break up in time. Unfortunately I pulled one out myself whilst removing a clot... Can definitely sympathise with the pain a long purple piece of stitch can cause!

Fully recovered now and can sleep properly (without pain and stopping breathing) and have more energy overall due to being able to breathe properly!

Also, less spots round my nose as I'm not trying to blow it all the time.

Hope this helps show light at the end of the tunnel.

Steve

I am back to work and finally feeling better. The doc said the recovery would take about a month. So far its been about 12 days. I am still a little stuffy but overall feeling pretty good. Thanks again for all the replies.

1 month follow up

Its been a over a month since my surgery and I have to say, I am feeling incredible!! I honestly havent felt this good in probably a year. Nose is healing very well and with the help of a Neilmed sinus rinse, I can breath really well.

I am also going on my 3rd week of working out and I am making great gains already. I truly feel like I have my life back again after almost a year of suffering vertigo problems from this sinus infection. Its going to be a great year!!

nice to hear to are recovering well, never nice seeing a major op going all pear shaped on anyone.

funny enough, i've only came across this topic today and i watched Vertigo by Alfred Hitchcock 2 days ago lol

Thats good news man!

I always hoped to never have to have surgery but life always has different plans doesnt it?

I've had surgery 3 times in hospital and 7 times in another clinic for, two ingrown toenails that infected the skin. Thankfully and touch wood, the last time fixed it.

I also had to get teeth taken out for braces, but when they Xrayed me they found that a tooth had grown across the roof of my mouth so they had to cut open my mouth to get it and remove the other 4.

I have to say, I'd love to get the meds after the first "big" op that I went through. Man I was stoned out of my head, no pain what so ever, sletp like a new born :)
