has anyone ever beaten the entire game without buying a car? Is it possible? After looking at the prize lists, I think not. I've gotten pretty far, but I need a TT, a Clio (both of which were in races I've won, and I didn't realize I needed to "repeat" to get those cars... to late now), an Altezza, any MB (same story there) a Lotus, and a TVR.

Has anyone else tried to do this? I think when I finally (sometime in 2003) complete the game I will have bought 4 cars (Clio, TT, Lotus, TVR)...

thats a pretty good challenge, but I don't have the time... I need fast cars as soon as i can get my hands on them.

I haven't done that, but I'm going to try after I finish the game. I'm a little over 94% finished now, so I'll be starting soon.

I think that it is impossible, what about Beginner League Type R? You cannot buy a type R to start off with and you only win a type R at the type R events.

I don't know how well it would mesure up, but you can win the Spoon Sports Civic Type R in the professional league's FF Challenge. I also don't know if that is a valid Type R for the Type R Challenge.

Origonally I thought the NSX Type R was a prize car for a license test, but I don't know where I got that from ...

Anyway, you could be right. I wonder if there are any other races like that.

Additionally, my challenge was to not spend any credits on anything. Which would make it very difficult. I don't know how well the Spoon Civic does, but it's a good example of having to push a car to its limits just to hang with the pack, if you can't slap a stage 4 turbo on it.

I forgot about the Spoon Sports Civic Type R, I'll go check it out now and come back with a yes or no (probably a yes).

Thanks for bringing the Spoon Type R up LoudMusic.

Since it is a Type R the Spoon Sports Civic Type R, which redlines at 16000 RPM can race in the Type R race series, I was wrong in my first post. Loudmusic was right I was wrong, my bad.

You can win Clios, TT's and Lotus, all as many times as you are willing to do so, consult the prize list for the series.

Sweet! We need to see if there are any other races that might require a purchased car. If we determin that the cars are all available, I'll give it a shot when I'm done.

so far i'm around 87% through and have only had to buy 2 cars (out of 97) to progress.
unless you spend a lot of time repeating races to get the car you want, enduros mainly, then your stuck buying what you want.

good challenge though

Have you been modding them out though, or just driving them pretty stock? I imagine the only cars that could be competitive when driven stock are the F1s, R390 Race Car, GT-One Race Car, and 787B. In some races, the LM cars would still get killed.

And in addition 'spend NO credits', means no oil changes. You'll burn through cars fast this way, especially in the enduros and challenges. So you'd have to use your fast cars sparingly.

I thought that you couldnt do the Bettle Cup since you dont win a Bettle but you win the Bettle Cup Car in the Clio Race series.

It's true that you cannot buy a Type R to start with, but in my orginal post I said that you cannot do any of the Type R races since you only win Type R's in the Type races but Loudmusic pointed out that you win the Spoon Civic Type R in Pro League FF Races.

k, good job rice!

Thanks for all the replies!

About the Spoon Civic Type R, I managed to pretty well demolish the Type R series with it, I think it was all golds except for one Silver. Hey, it was late, I feel asleep behind the wheel.

Well, I may not be conquering the game quickly, but I am doing it cheaply...

Around 40% done, 50% of my races I win, doin allright... I'd love to get online with some people if/when the modem is ever released...

I found a few more races last night that require a purchased cars. The Altezza challenges, for example. You can get an Altezza LM really far into the game, but the race you get it from requires something else. I also found that it would be pretty difficult to even attempt the first FF series, since everything you get is FR. You'd have to go pretty far before you could get an FF to go beat one of the first races.

Maybe we could do a GTP challenge of "100% complete spending the least amount of money".

~LoudMusic

Have been at this challenge for a while, no buying or selling cars. Bout 30% through, and going well. Should be possible to complete.

Hey, I'm impressed. But I think we've decided that it can't be done. Maybe you can prove us wrong ... Are you getting upgrades?

Yes i did but its kinda hard.

First of all u must get all the golds in the rally licenseand it takes about mmm 4 days or less than with the car u win (subaru prototype) u tune it to the maximum, and than start to win all the rally race...( after u get all golds it will be such an easy challenge :D ).

When ull win all the rally races ull get the Escudo and u wont have problem winning some race in the pro league and gain some cool cars for the lower league.

But to finish the game u must buy at least a Mercedes cos u will never win one them in any race.

Bye!!!

Are u italian? (spero di si ;) )

I don't know if we have any other Italian members. Welcome to GTPlanet!

The Mercedes ... there's one I forgot about! Did you upgrade your cars, or just run them the way you got them?

~LoudMusic

Thank u for the welcome

:D
For the rally races u can also dont upgrade that cars but i suggest u to do that cos if u will do a bad turn the cpu car will go ahead in a while...for the street car it depends sometimes u can also run with no upgrade but its better do that.

I am upgrading the cars with the credits prizes from the races. Not selling any cars to make cash, so have a large garage.
