New 2-Player Concern

Ok, I just read the new article on IGN, and it states that the two player screen is vertical instead of horizontal. Here is the Quote.

The other oddity is that the default mode for two players is setting the two views side by side so that each driver gets a very tall, but not very wide, view of the track. This has become very disconcerting and provides an incentive to take the game to a LAN and get some multiplayer action that way. Thus far we have not been able to decipher the Japanese in order to make the views on top of each other, if it even is possible.

Now they are saying they havnt found a way to switch it since they can't read Japanesee. I know Maskrider translated all the screens for us but I didn't see a option for it in his translations. So is it true, are we stuck in a vertical split screen?

No garage battles I can live with, but not being able to have a good veiw of the track is totally different. Not being able to drive well becuase you can't see the next turn coming up seems like a big mistake in a driving simulator.

I read in the english pamphlet that came with my Chinese game that it was vertical in 16x9 mode and horizontal in 4x3 mode. I haven't tried it though.

In any case, I think vertical gives a better view of the track anyway.

It's side-by-side in 16:9 mode and top'n'bottom in 4:3 mode.

Exactly as it was in GT3.

Mine defaulted to 16:9. Maybe it's reading my hardware settings in the PS2 where I think I stated I have a 16:9 screen. I could check, but that would mean going downstairs, and that's such a long way ;)

That article also mentioned that the graphics took a major hit when battling in 2-player mode. Do you think that was the result of them using the 1080i output or is it really like that using the standard output? And I'm kind of confused about the screen shaking thing too. If one person is playing with the 3rd person perspective and the other is using the 1st person view, will the entire screen shake when the guy in 1st person hits a wall? Basically, does the 3rd person guy get punished for the other guy's mistake?

Good to know 2 player mode is not totally messed up. As far as the Graphics go in two player mode I would guess they had to tone them down becuase if they didn't then the game would run badly. I'm assuming it only goes down to the lowest quality setting which is 480i, Right?

Screen shaking on the other hand is a very respectabl question and I would like to know the answer as well.

In GT3 the screen shaky thing happened to Player 2 if Player 1 crashed / spun off whatever - it was pretty annoying then, so I hope that is fixed too

oh yeah, this article is that the *new* one the "Insider" jobbie with the KY interview or somesuch thing? Im not an insider so I cant read it

No, it isn't fixed.

One thing peculiar about 2P mode is that at the start New York is available to 1P but not 2P and Citta di Aria is available to 2P but not 1P. Bizarre.

I don't remember the screen ever shaking in GT3.

You can get Citta di Aria in 1p Time Trial.

No 2p New York is weird though...
