New BMW Z4 Coupe and M Coupe going into production!!!

It's great that it's been confirmed, though it was already pretty obvious that they'd go through with it... :)

The previous M Coupe had the most unique styling (like it or not) in a long time, and the thrill to drive it to match...

... but they just threw a hard-top on this one. Thumbs down BMW, thumbs down...
 
yeah but they didnt just simply put a hard top on it, the back end is pretty much completely different, first of all its a hatch.

I think vtec_guy was referring to the Z4 Coupe... :)

If so, I agree with him. To me, a hardtop is when the cloth roof is simply replaced with a hard one, and nothing else, like this S2000.

The Z4 Coupe features a different roof and rear design, much like the Z3 Coupe did. And in my opinion, the Z4 Coupe is much hotter-looking than the "shoe" that was the Z3 coupe... :indiff:

It was an awesome car, :) but it was a shoe. :yuck:

Hmm...I must say, without the Z3's soft, round, what-the-hell-is-going-on front end, an M-coupe like that escapes the "shoe" look. You've convinced me. That would be awesome. :)

I just happen to think that the M-coupe we've gotten is great too. :p

(I didn't notice it before, but in that picture you can see that with the Z3 coupe they forgot the Hofmeister kink. :rolleyes: )
 
You're right, never noticed that on the older M's.

To come to think of it, I haven't seen an M Coupe in a long time. My brother saw one a few weeks ago, in Alpine White (the exact colour I'd get it in).

That would look pretty cool, however i'd much rather have a completely reinvented look for the new coupe rather than just an old Z3 Coupe with just the bottom half of the car based around the regular Z4.

I think the car they've designed looks stunning, the back end looks great! I think the shape of the Z4 Coupe has earnt the 'coupe' name more than the Z3 based model did. The Z3 was more of an 'incredibly hot, hot hatch' than a coupe. I think aesthetically it ticks all the right boxes, cant wait to hear about how it performs!
 
I didn't intend them to stick the exact Z3 top half onto the Z4, I meant pulling off a similar job. They just made another boring coupe with this one. The Cayman is far better, anyways.
 
I like the actual design a bit more but id still be very happy with that one. I think that one is an official design because it says "bmw design" on the bottom of the numberplate. But this one's a render unlike the pics of the actual one.
 
I don't know if it's a US bias or not, but the coupe they've designed looks incredible, while the SHOE that was the old M coupe was appalling--liberally bashed by most everyone here. The couple other americans that have commented on it as well have just said they'd take it--not love it. I'd take it, too, but just for the feel. I think the cayman would destroy the sales on it, though. But I'd go for what will be the Z4 M coupe over the Cayman any day.
 
I think the M Coupe will out-sell the Cayman with no problem at all. Partly because it has a reputation for being such an extreme and great performing car, partly because it looks a lot better than the Cayman, and partly because you know that BMW wont make a single compromise when designing and making this car. Whereas the Cayman is full of compromises because its main purpose is to fill a gap in the market between the Boxster and the 911.
 
Yup--I'm with you on that one. I like the fact that it looks like a mini aston. It really is a great looking car, and distinctive from the rest of their line--unlike the Cayman. You will never mistake that car for something else--even for someone fairly uninformed, nay, completely uninformed about BMW's lineup. Not so with ANY porsche.
