I am living in Australia and i have around 2-3 g's in the kitty. I am getting back on work soon. I was wondering what is a good car to get started with for L's and P's. I like Japanese brands and i wouldn't mind having boot space and 5 seats but a hatchback would work to, but also good for petrol. Any suggestions would be great.
Cheers :)

If you aren't looking for performance I highly recommend a Micra or any of its cousins, great little car that 👍 It's honestly pretty nippy as well for what it is too.

Plus with you being on your Ps it's great because it garners little to no attention from police and panels for it are a dime a dozen.

Being in WA limits your choices a bit but try for a Nissan Bluebird or a CD5 Honda Accord EXi or VTi. Cheap and practical motoring.

Alternatively going a little smaller and/or older you could try a Mazda 323 Astina or an N14 Nissan Pulsar.

Good suggestions, i am hoping i will have around 5-6 k ready to buy a car. I like the idea of Subaru legacys with the boot space and seats but then again i like something small and cheap like a Mazda 121 or something?

My old Accord had pretty decent bootspace and the rear seats fold down. Economical, which is a plus point over the Liberty especially if the Liberty's an AWD model, and a bit cheaper to service and run.

The old bubble 121s, I wouldn't recommend. You can do a whole lot better than one of those.

If you can get 5k, perhaps try for a Subaru Impreza Hatch. A Liberty RX or Heritage would also be a good buy for under $6k.

Magnas are good, so long as you get the 3.5L V6 rather than the 3.0L. The 3.0L is unreliable.

You may even be able to get away with an Audi A4 or BMW 318i for this sort of budget.

That is the other car, i see a lot of BMW 318i's around and i love the look of of them and i know there is always spare parts cause there is heaps :)

Two Words - Ford. Fiesta.

Mines a 9 year old '04 model, and everyday without fail, it starts instantaneously and runs as smooth as silk.
It's economical, very spacious (front and boot) and they are incredibly cheap to buy*/run. In fact, in the space of time it's been on planet earth, I think it's been undriveabke for perhaps 5 days accumulatively. I know it's not Japanese, but it's much better than a Micra (no offence to anyone with a Micra, just my opinion 👍).

Plus, IMO, it's quite a good-looking hatchback.

But, alas, it's up to you. Let us know what you decided on. ;)

*£1000 get you a decent one.
£2000 will get you an immaculate one.

Any vn to vs 3.8 v6 commo, easy to get parts in the unlikely chance they break down, plenty of room for stereo, mates, chicks etc and they still got a bit of punch for when a falcon pulls up along side of ya :)
