New career or new game?

So, I've been elsewhere on the internet and have heard some mildly popular opinions regarding simply adding in to GT7 indefinitely, as opposed to making GT8 - or indeed any new Gran Turismo game. Now, the most common complaint with 7, afaik, is that the career mode is a little lacklustre, a take I agree with. I've then heard opinions stating that what Polyphony could do is just patch in a new career mode into 7, and rearranging the cafe so it becomes side content.

I'm curious what GTPlanet thinks of this take. Personally to me it makes much more sense to just make a new game at that point, but I'm curious if anyone here sees any merit to this idea at all. This question disregards whether GT8 is in development or how realistic this option might be.

Easy patchwork fix until GT8. Not original content, but port the GT League from Sport. Add some gift cars, done and dusted. Even better if you allow a 2nd economy and garage just for that, but that's asking for too much.

This was the Power Pack, no?

They aren't going to put in a full new campaign for free.

No of course not. This is part of why the thinking seems so absurd to me. The idea is that PD would scrap GT8 and any consecutive titles and just continually update 7 indefinitely; in the first place it's not something PD is planning on doing anyway, and surely the work involved creating a whole new campaign for 7 and patching it in somehow would not be worth it. At that point just make a new game.

They won't scrap GT8.

A different career mode is a fantasy. Not to mention, for every person who wants a different career mode, there is a specific idea on what that career mode should be.

That's why I stick to the custom races instead of the career. Then, I can make whatever I want.

I think when it comes to a compelling career, so much of what makes it feel compelling is early to mid game, making meaningful choices that influence your path. Due to GT7's age, I think introducing that now is pretty meaningless, as most players who are still playing the game are likely to be late game players with most or all events unlocked.

So I don't think there's any sense updating GT7's career to that format at this stage. Rather, the best we can really hope for is higher paying races to reduce the grind to buy cars to create interesting custom races.

So at this stage I would prefer a new GT game, but that said, a new GT game doesn't automatically = my ideal career mode and GT7 doesn't = rubbish career for everyone. So that's just my perspective.

They sold us a new career with power pack. There's no reason why they couldn't do something like that again.

At this point, with them saying the game is still selling well I don't see another GT until after the PS6 launches and it will be for the PS5 and PS6

Somehow I forgot about that, lol. Yeah, that basically covers it.

Exactly.

And for those that said the power pack is a career, is it really? It's just a progression through some tracks. There's no "career" to it.

To me, a career is open ended progress. For instance, rather than weekly challenges, it could have been/should have been weekly/monthly championships. Different cars and different progressions. It could essentially be eternal.

OR

Give the custom race people what they keep asking for. The inclusion of custom championship tools alongside custom races.

One thing I definitely DO NOT want is a "career" like EA's F1 series has. I tried F1 2025 and I shut the game off after endless cutscenes and tutorials of how my career works. I play racing games to race, not to show around my high end apartment. I seriously could have completed a race or two in GT in the time span of F1's career intro. :banghead:

The most recent Forza Motorsport got bad reviews for being too grindy, but I prefer that. The older GT games were super grindy, having to spam the sunday cup to earn enough money for something better. Obviously as you progress and unlock bigger events with bigger payouts it becomes less of a grind which is fine. GT8 needs to finally leave PS4 in the past though, maybe even make it a PS5 Pro/PS6 only title.

Just letting people share custom races like we can share liveries would create tonnes of extra content for people to enjoy. I don't have the time to grind to create 16 car grids full of hyper expensive cars, so I never get to enjoy custom races against them. Custom championships would be a great addition too though.

GT7 is the most grindy GT game in the series history if you measure by time spent doing the highest payout event per minute to time required to save up for the most expensive cars.

Some grind is ok, but there's a reasonable limit to my time and patience which is massively exceeded by GT7.

Yes but you don't need the 20+ million credit cars to progress in the career mode. Those are the the last few cars in the game. I've got about 40 cars left to get, most are VGT's with a couple of really expensive legendary cars but I've never had to grind custom events or do that Japan race everyone talks about. I've never once 'got stuck' on a career event where I didn't own anything competitive enough to win either. The game throws tons of performance cars at you and you can gain millions more credits just by getting gold in the CE's and online time trials

You don't need the vast bulk of the cars to progress through the single player. What @Dave A says below is the crux of the issue for many.
I don't have the time to grind to create 16 car grids full of hyper expensive cars
@Bonneville120 For instance, if you want to do an early 90's Le Mans field, you need a few McLaren F1 GTRs (16mil each) and some F40s (several million each, I don't recall exactly). If you want a Hypercar grid, it's 3 million per car. You need at least 10 (10 2 car teams), which is 30mil credits. Want s field of F3500s? that's 10million.

And it's the time to make the liveries, and often, the time to tweak the cars so they work. Choosing the correct cars matters as well. For GR3, for instance, the best challenge requires a lot of experimentation with performance points. BoP is fie for people racing people, but it doesn't suffice for people racing the AI.

Some, like myself, enjoy making the races, just as some enjoy tuning, some enjoy liveries, and some enjoy decals. Sharing the custom races would be a big boost to the community. That, and a custom championship, would solve a lot of the communities issues with the single player.

I'm talking about the grind to progress through career mode like the older games. You had to save up to get competitive cars to win further races. You never have to do that in GT7 since its always throwing new cars at you.
