The new chicane looks quite interested, we will see what difference it makes to laptimes this week as a few teams will be testing there.

New section:

It's the second to last corner, which used to be a right hand sweeper. I guess the run-off area on the outside of the corner was too small for FIAs liking, although I'm sure there must have been a better way of fixing it than planting a chicane there. :indiff:

Promotes overtaking which is needed on Catalunya, Turn 1 is the only real overtaking zone on the track before this..

Hmpf. They destroyed the most wonderful part of the track! The last section was just amazing to see the cars in.

sorry, I haven't read the article, but is the change to the La Caixa curve?

Soon there will be a rule that no track may present any curve which will require off-center steering input above 3rd gear. The highest performance cars in the world, and all the best corners are being destroyed.

That's not what the article says:
F1-Live
It was reported late last year that the Spanish Grand Prix venue would amend the quick 'Europcar' corner, near the end of the lap, in the name of safety
I don't think there's much chance for overtaking another car after powering from just one-eighth-mile away from two hairpins.

I didn't say that was the reason why they did it, I just mentioned it could be a good overtaking spot. ;)

I guess this'll give people a better idea of where the chicane is. Though, this is still the old layout, thats just how long this has been planned for...

I think it makes the track better. Modern F1 cars need the slow-corner–straight–slow-corner formula for overtaking. It was impossible to get close enough through that final corner when it was so fast. Now it will be an easy corner, but overtaking is now more likely into turn 1.

As for the chicane being an overtaking point? No way.

To be honest I've always preferred a sweeping corner towards the end, it's also great for the camera when someone finishes a race on the last lap, cue Alonso, or Schumacher.
