New Competition Discussion

Well...
I saw some discussion in the automotive competition about the same competition not having a theme, and some other problems, and I am asking if there is general interest in opening a new competition.

Basically there are two options for a competition.

a. Another automotive competition but with themes (that I don’t recommend, seeing that there is one running (although without themes)). Why bother when there is one running…?

b. A General Photo Competition with themes (seeing that this one has great possibilities for themes and it isn’t so limited to have them).

Of course, there is no impediment of entering both. If you like to shot cars only enter the automotive comp. or this (if the theme is about cars), if you like to shot cars and other things enter both, and if you like to shot other things besides cars, you can enter this one.

Please discuss, has I would like to hear everyone’s opinions before creating a new competition.

create a competition of car photo with themes, I'm sure it would be a hit, and we could be able to compete in both. I'd hit both, and I'd also hit a general competition with themes... even my wife would be in.

My only worry, besides themes, is would a Car Photo Comp. get enough hits in this forum? I would hope the mods would, for once, allow the comp. to be held in the Cars In General forum to generate more hits (I don't think YSSMAN, Doug, Holden, or others come into this area), seeing as it is, somewhat car-related. But, I'll wait & see.

Themes'll make it tough for me, but I'm game for it. 👍

I'd like to see a general photography thread with themes hit off, gives those a chance that can't get near any good cars a chance to photograph something which may well be around in their neighbourhood. As a example RAF aircraft fly around my house constantly, to put a theme as planes then it would give others a chance to get a photo of something which perhaps they wouldn't usually photograph. Even themes of nature etc. So I like the sound of that, also concerning the automotive competition would it be a idea to just try and get the current one with no themes to change to have themes instead creating a new one and also creating many arguments between members. I'm sure if I was TVR&FF and someone else created a new competition of almost the exact same thing as his competition then I'm sure I'd be pretty annoyed.

Well, the majority of the galleries here, in this subforum are more car related than anything, so I though that there could be more interest in (another) automotive one, although, and as I said, it is pretty stupid, seeing that there is one already running.
My main objective is to create a general photo competition (and I am surprised no one already created one when this subforum was reformatted.

I am pointing out some rules, and meanwhile keep discussing.

I just have one little dilemma about Photoshop rules and the image submission rules.
The image submission, maybe it will be like any other competition (submit in the thread), or via P.M. to add the element of surprise to the competition.

About the Photoshop rules I don’t really know. I think free Photoshop rules would be a bit too much. Minor adjustment rules (Levels, colours, curves, Hue/Saturation), or we can have a 2.0 style with where we can also adjust some filter (not all) like blur, noise, sharpen, some dodge and burn tool, and maybe brush tool...I really would like to know the opinion of some of the specialists on photography about this.

We don't need another automotive competition. Whilst I think that the current one needs to have more of a framework than it does at the minute, that's really for the organiser to realise. However, because the automotive photography competition is already up and running, I'm not going to sanction another one. Unless there's a really good reason.

I think we should have competitions and challenges. Probably only one at a time. Both should have themes, and should have their rules defined as they're set. I don't really see a need to vote on challenges, but I'm happy to be over-ruled on that one.

Competitions: Themed, with an end time. Personal library photos probably acceptable.

Challenges: Themed, with a start and end time. Photo(s) must be taken during the challenge. In some instances, more than one photo would be acceptable/required, e.g. a treasure hunt.

All images posted must comply with the image posting rules. And you should not be allowed to resubmit images you have already entered in other competitions/challenges. As Speedster502 says, this is about stimulating people to go out shooting, not stay in crawling through libraries.

Yeah, I know about that, and that is my though.
I was thinking, well, not everyone has the time to go out there and shoot something, so, the photos could be taken (at least) one or two week before the week competition starts.

The Photos being taken only during the competition week could net result very well, mainly because of people not being able to have time for it. Has also I am not in favor of putting in the competition "the personal library". ;)

But there is a problem with this… Problem resolved

Ok, these polls need to be running longer than 2 days. They need to be following the Photomode Comp. way in the GT4 section.

The 1st competition lasts for a week.
The poll for the 1st competition lasts the next week. In this same week, comp. 2 starts running.

At the end of the "next" week, the poll for comp. 1 ends, and the deadline for comp. 2 ends. The winner of Comp. 1 picks the theme, and then while Week 3 begins, Week 2's Poll begins.

If a winner can not actually pick a theme in this competition, the format should still follow similar guidelines, not 2 day polls.

Yep, that is one of my thoughts also, avoiding that week lap. The only thing is, do you think that I should create a thread for the poll (standalone) or should I put the poll on the same week thread and announce that the poll is up. I’ll maybe in this trial week do the poll in the same submission thread, just to see how it goes.
But I’ll only start week one after the poll of the trial week closes, and I’ll do (like I do in all photomode competitions) a 4 days poll. After that it goes normally like you suggested. Thanks again for the input
