yeah, they picked a new design for the World Trade Center site. it is 1,776 feet tall making it the tallest building in the world. it will take 5-15 years to build and whole new complex is planned. pics coming soon. it is a nice design though

here is some pics

Heh, 5-15 years? That's quite a wide range.

Anyway, it looks nice. I don't know how it is going to go wit the rest of the skyline though.

it's an ok design, but give me classical and refined anyday. this looks like a haphazard collection of crystaline structures.

Sure, let's rebuild it even bigger, so they have even less trouble hitting it with a plane...

It's pretty stupid, if you ask me. What's the whole point behind a building like this? To honor the victims of the events? A simple monument, like the one eriged for the Viet Nam victims makes more sense, and has a much more powerful meaning that this, which looks like something a 5 year old would build out of Lego blocks.

This is the winner of the contest, but it was also said that the final design will more than likely have very little to do with this one.
This site is one of the richest real estate locations in the world, and more than likely they won't devote that much to being an empty park.

I like the new design, very futuristic and aspiring. I can't think of a better memorial than the tallest buildings in the World. If New York is really concerned about another 767 crashing into the new towers, than they could just setup some Anti-Aircraft missile installations near them.

sarcasitic eh? as for the memorial the walls left standing will not be torn down as those are considered to be the foot prints. also a actual memorial will be built in the same area as the building is.

I'm not saying have it only be a park, but at least have SOME green(other than cash) in there, and preferably grass!

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'd love to see something like that in the city too. I just know that when you have a prime piece of real estate like that it would be financially irresponsible to devote any of it to park land.
The loss of revenue could be measured in the billions just so that a few people would feel better about having a memorial for 5 or 6 years before forgetting.
This is a cynical view I know and many people will never forget what happened, but all of my life experience up to this point (and being a native New Yorker) tells me that everyone will move on to something else and accept anything placed there as the new standard.
