I know, practice makes perfect... but geez, I can't keep the car straight on some tracks and I'm using stock cars, like the 97 Civic Type R, Camara SS 2010 with their default tires.

It seems that I'm constantly fighting the wheel to stay straight. At some points, I feel like someone is annoying me by turning the wheel away from where I want to go. I've put simulation on, no power steering or whatever the name of the option is and I kept the feedback at 5. Should I lower the feedback so I can enjoy the wheel or something or put steering assist on ?

Another thing that doesn't help, I don't have the "perfect" setting for the wheel and gearbox, they are clipped on some little wood stools, meaning that I cannot really turn like I should but I should at least be able to keep the car straight on the SS7 track with a Camara SS, but the wheel keeps moving like it's posessed.

Also got my birthday ticket today, Fairlady 78. Too bad I'm not born in the 90's... oh well !

Force feedback does take a while to get used too. Start of lower, I started at 2, and eventually you'll be crying out for something stronger in a couple of months.

The problem is the speed. If the wheel is wobbling back and forth, you're hitting the deadzone of the wheel and the wheel will forcefully swerve. Go on a track like tsukuba with a lower powered car on racing softs so there is no wheel spin and see if it still swings back and forth like that.

Ok, because, I mean, I'm 6'3" 235 lbs and I seriously feel like I'm fighting a spirit ! Speaking of spirit, maybe it wants to ride in a RX-7... ;-)

Thanks !

Adjusting the deadzone is the way to handle these issues of the car swerving back and forth. Some wheels are just harder to fine tune.

You've not mentioned a platform or game. Hang on..........

Right crystal ball is clearing I see...........G.....T.....5......P......S........(hang on its coming).........3....

Ta Da.

How'd I do?

He did say on ss7 and the birthday car soooo......
Yeah. Gt5. ;)

Ps: op: C-A-M-A-R-O. ;
I got the same birthday car. Lets see what I get for my 33rd on the 29th of this month ;)

Deadzone can't be adjusted with the G27 in GT5.

Are you going from DS3 to wheel or another wheel to the G27?

I would connect it to your PC and check how the wheel responds/calibrates in the Logitech Gaming software. There's the slim chance of the wheel being faulty, but I doubt it. However, if you are going from controller to wheel, it's a whole new game to get used to :)

It takes a while to get used to. If you think regular cars are causing problems, try an Evo X (Which is glitched and constantly oscilates) or try one of the Red Bull prototypes.

When I first started my hands were holding the wheel, but the wheel was pulling my hands whichever way it pleased. Now the wheel doesn't move unless my arms move, but it's constantly fighting me :D The only time it pulls is if i'm over-eager on the throttle or lose the back end in a high speed turn by applying too much lock. It's an unusual sensation but you do get used to it pretty quickly.

Interesting. I am getting one tommorow. Will it be any worse than the dfgt? I used to notice the wheel sway when I first got the dfgt but it doesnt do that anymore unless I blatantly let it. I don't even notice anymore

I assure you if you're used to the DFGT, the G27 will be second nature to you. I did this transition and adapted quickly. It's an exciting transition btw :D
It's just so nice to have the wheel more quiet and smoother.

 Consider me excited.

I just need to finish this research paper before I go into hibernation with the G27.

edit: Ordered

Once I finish this paper im officially on winter break!

Congrats and good luck on your paper! Were you able to get a good deal on the wheel? Someone from another thread said you should sign up for the logitech.com newsletter to get 20-40% off.

Ok so don't know if you'll see this by now but I also had the same problem and quickly realized that I needed MORE FFB not less.

The problem with the G27 is that the FFB setting seems only to control resistance to steering input and not the force of bumps and such on the road. There is a lot of unseen detail on the tracks that gets fed back through the FFB engine.

When I turned it to simulation with FFB to 10 and power assist off I was able to control the counter-input much better. (power assist on just takes almost all the challenge out, it's about like racing in a toyota, but might be good at first to get used to)

The other thing you have to realize is that unlike with the controller when you turn all assists off driving over a rumble strip, putting a tire in the grass or upsetting the cars balance at the limit can and likely will send you into a wall just as it would in a real car.

I believe because people don't feel this through the controller the way you do through the wheel you don't over-correct. With the wheel now you have a desire to react to all that feedback but in fact just like when racing on the track reactions must be thoughtful, delicate and perfectly timed in anticipation of the changing traction circle at play.

I find now the less I fight the wheel the harder and faster I can push it. Sure I have to push fast and sometimes but what is done with the throttle is more important than the wheel when at maximum grip.

Yeah mate, just give yourself a bit more time...as for your setup...you need something real steady to run a high FFB. I suggest starting of at 2 like others have said.
Don't give up though...when you do get your speed up...pretty much everyone is faster with a wheel.;)👍

I have been learning to drift with a G25, racing is awsome im quicker instantly with the smoother input of a wheel, been playing GT from 1 never with a wheel tho but I did drive IRL.

Drifting is a whole new game with the wheel and I expect to be learning simple control for months to come tbh even tho I could drift any track blind folded with a DS3, and im not new to car control either as im currantly banned from driving for doing something similar on public roads, big mistake I know.

Well anyway like people have said just stick with it, its the only way you will get good the more you practice the quicker you get better but also if its frustrating you just leave it for a while and do something else, you have to enjoy it.

I've recently switched over to the CSR Elite from the G27 that I used for a year and still have it. I must admit... this wheel still amazes me in every way especially for the price. A game is only as good as the hardware it supports and the G27+GT5=the perfect match! Don't get me wrong, I love my CSR Elite and it did make drifting more delightful to me, but for this price...this package (pedals,wheel,shifter)...and now it being an officially supported steering wheel for GT5, I would still be just as happy with GT5 if I didn't buy the Elite to have an xbox compatible wheel. In all seriousness.... The G27 wheel rim quality is still the one to beat till this day!

...also if its frustrating you just leave it for a while and do something else, you have to enjoy it.
Never a truer word spoken, wise words there my friend!;)👍
I see it like this:
Frustration= Loss of focus & fun
Loss of focus & fun= No gain in speed or performance
