So I got this new graphics card for Christmas and it's causing some problems. It's a [BFG Tech] NVIDIA GeFORCE 7300 GT.
The Problem is after booting up it shows the login screen. When I log in the screen goes black and the monitor goes into standby. The only way to get a picture is to reboot, hold F8, and select either "Start using last know good configuration" or "start in safe mode".
Then I remembered I accidentally changed the resolution earlier. So I went into Safe Mode and fixed that. Still, same problem. I go back into Safe Mode, and the resolution reset it's self to the resolution that doesn't work.
When I start in the last good configuration it boots up and logs in with no problem. But when I try to open any program at all the computer restarts. Also it restarts it's self randomly during use.
I let my mom take a look and she discovered the drivers weren't installed. When we tried installing, it took to long, and the computer restarted it's self.
I followed the instructions for seating the card to the period. And my dad reseated it. I made sure it was plugged into the AGP slot (like instructions said) and it still wont work.
Also whenever I boot up I get a white loading bar at the bottom of my screen. This started a few weeks ago after my brother used the computer. Every time I try a virus scan my mom comes and closes the :censored:ing scanner. Any tips on stopping people from closing the scanner?
Can some of you smart people help me? I'm supposed to wait until I can take it to my uncle since he does programming but I don't want to wait a week. If it's a simple fix that even the dumbest person could do then I would like to do it. I could try at installing the drivers again if somebody can tell me how.
EDIT: Now I just get the below message.
Windows could not start due to missing file
<Windows root>\system 32\hal.dll
Please re-install and try again
Or something similar to that.
