Post the rest of your PC spec, please...

Presumably you're looking for an AGP card, not a PCI Express card...

edit: quite a few 6600GTs within your price range here

or Geforce 6800XT, i'm really goin on what u say coz as u can prob guess i dont know a hell of a lot about them. just basically want the best i can get 4 my money .

del sol man
i was thinking geforce 6600 gt but they are sold out on ebuyer just now

There are plenty of 6600GTs in stock on eBuyer just now...check the link I stuck in my first post.

As Flerbizky has already said, your system is more than good enough to make the most of the new card, though perhaps in the future you could think about adding another 512MB of ram.

Flame-Returns already mentioned it but i thought it needed highlighting - The 6800le is the same chip as used in cards such as the very powerful 6800GT etc. and therefore as a card has a lot of potential. Many many people recommend this card over 6600GT. 6600GTs are old now and are based on the 6600 series (obviously) which is older than the 6800 (again..). If you're not afraid to do a bit of overclocking (and it's not hard, so why not) then i'd recommend it.

What's the best card for £100? - Contains advise for the 6800le and against the 6600gt. Overclockers contains loads of "best card for £100" threads and everyone says 6800le:

It's up to you. Overclocking isn't hard and you don't need to change the card physically to do it a bit. Just thought i'd let you know of an alternative to the 6600GT.

If you dont want to OC the card, I highly recommned the 6600gt. With my 128mb 6600gt (other pc specs : p4 3.0ghz, 1gb ram, 200gb sata hd) I can run Battlefield 2 @1280x1024 on high settings (no AA yet, but I'll try it tomorrow) and same with Half Life 2 and SWAT 4, GTA SA. 👍 Great card for the money.

If you do want to mod your card, do get the 6800LE (if there are any left). You can flash the card and unlock all 16 pipelines, which made it a 6800GT, for half the price.

Sounds good to me. 👍

Comparing ATI next to Nvidia graphics, ATI has better color and contrast with less of a 'cartoony' look. Nvidia graphics always look washed or milky to me in comparison. Numbers set aside on which one will benchmark better, ATI just "looks" better in my opinion and would suggest a ATI card over a Nvidia for that reason.

But the X700 or X800 does not have Pixel Shader 3.0 which makes games look more real. And the thing you said about NVidia and Cartoon looks is making me laugh a lot, you know how to bring out a joke don't you lol.

It still has half the Memory as the 6800GT.

Memory isn't everything though. Yes it's better to have more, but still the amount of power you will get from overclocking the 6800LE will get it close to the 6800GT. Which for the money, is good.

:), glad you got a kick out of that. I have been comparing ATI to Nvidia side by side with every card I have ever bought, with exception to my dual GPU Voodoo 5500 :D. ATI 8500 to Nvidia's 4400, ATI's 9800 to NVidia's 6800, ATI's x850XT PCI-X to NVidia's 7800GT PCI-X. ATI graphics have always looked sharper and with better contrast to my eyes. NVidia has always had a look of a milky haze to it. The point I was making is to be sure to see what graphics card 'looks' best within your price range. Find a shop that has both cards demo'd on like monitors fully calibrated. Let your eyes be the judge when purchases a product. Either chip-set, be it a 9800 Pro or a nVidia 6800, will do the job for you I'm sure.

Any 6800 is better than the 9800 Pro, even the LE. I've had my 9800 Pro for a year now and upgrading that to a 6800 will be a v. good idea! :) I never noticed a huge difference between the two brands of cards, but i've only ever owned a GeForce 3 ti200 and the 9800Pro and they're hardly comparable :P

I hear ya! Too many cards, I meant the 9800 vs. the FX 5900. Not the 6800, my bad.

I'm running that card right now! Hell of a card for the price IMO. Some effects aren't available for it though. I am playing Fable right now, and the shadows are horrible. The new 1800 would run it fine, but it would look better on a nvidia 6800 I'm afraid. Besides that, I have been really pleased with the x850xt card. The HDTV support is awesome, something that in the past nvidia has been lacking. Not sure where nvidia stands on this issue now.

Yeah, so for your more shadow intensive games VIPEFREAK you are better off getting an Nvidia 6800 Ultra. 👍

err... but what about stuff other than games? my puter in the family room has nvidia and I think it's because of the card that CAD stuff doesn't do so well with it. :scared: I'd rather stay with ATi. I guess it's back to looking at the x800xl...

how bout this... ?
