What's up everyone.., I just got this game today and I have a few questions.

First.., I'm not new to racing titles. All of my racing (up until today) has been done via the Xbox 360 with a Racing Wheel (Main titles I use: Forza 2 and Forza 3, Race Pro, NFS Shift, Dirt 1 and Dirt 2, and a few others)

The wife and I picked up the PS3 (GT5) bundle pack today. After playing the game I'm scratching my head on a few things....

1: What is up with the AI..?? Major rubber-banding going on. Is the AI in this game also "adaptive AI"? The reason I ask is because while doing the Yaris Race (Spec A) no matter what I do.., the AI just rubber-bands like mad! You can completely smoke them.., and then on the straight (BAM) they ALL fly right past you.

I figured perhaps a few upgrades to the vehicle would be sufficient. I added better tires, exhaust, clutch, and flywheel. I assumed the added horses, better grip, and better performing clutch would level the field.., but NOOOOO. The AI just adapted to every upgrade I put on the vehicle. How are you supposed to win a race if the AI constantly wins from rubber-banding and getting a very unfair advantage?

2: I see there are Premium and Standard vehicles. When doing a few Spec A races..., I went to the Dealerships looking for the particular cars on the "requirements list" for that race..., only to find that the cars needed are not there. Am I missing something? How do you access the Standard Vehicles? It appears that the only thing showing in the Dealerships are the Premium Vehicles?

Any help from members is really appreciated. I'm not new to racing (or gaming) My gaming days go back to the original Atari :-) I'm just trying to get adjusted to the new operating system for GT and the PS3. I do have GT for my PSP.., so basic navigation isn't so bad.., but there are still a few things I've gotta figure out yet.

Thanks

1. The opponent cars should not change as you upgrade your own car.

2. All the cars in the Used Car Dealership are standard vehicles.

It's really strange. No matter what I do in the Spec A Yaris race.., the AI will fall behind.., then on the straight the group just catches up with ease and passes right by me (this is even with upgrades to my vehicle).

It's very odd.., and that's why I asked if the AI is an adaptive system. Even after all the added upgrades the AI seemed to adjust to it.

What are the specs of your vehicle?

I'm not on my PS3 at the moment and don't know those off hand. Question though.., should upgrades have even been required or necessary? All the previous races I did were with the vehicles at default with no upgrades. However., the standard Yaris (Premium) model in the Yaris race cannot keep up with the AI on the straights. Even when running in 1st place (with a considerable gap) the AI will catch up and pass right by on the straights.

Does this game place you at a huge disadvantage if you run with Auto Tran rather than Manual Tran? I was using Auto Tran and am curious if the AI's "major" advantage is due to them performing at the level of Manual Trans...

Some of the yaris's are a bit sluggish even fully tuned the best one for the job i found was was the turbo one. I tried it with the euro one fully tuned and i had the same problem, you probably have a unpowered yaris as the a.i are extremly dumb any car about 100hp or more will having the being left behind. This car is used so is a standard available in the UCD i won pretty easily with this.

The typical opponent for that race has around 138HP so your going to need a bit more than that.

Ohhhh.., so I need to look at the (opponents vehicle specs) and base my upgrades (if needed) on that. It makes sense if the AI's average is 138 HP. I imagine my specs were below that. Interesting ;-)

It's gonna take some getting used to I guess. Completely different gaming platform and set up than I'm used to.

Thanks for the help!

I remember doing this Yaris race. Blew them away on the straights. There's some "rubber banding" in F1 2010, but I have not experienced this at all in GT5.

The main problem with GT5 is the extreme monotony combined with racing series that are too lifeless and easy. They made a 3 week long game into a 12 week one by making you do the same endurance race over and over again 12 times to level up. Its like having a 50 level game by playing the same level over and over again. WTF, PD.

You don't have to do endurance races over and over again, gold all the Licenses, Special and Seasonal Events and race online to fill the gaps. If you prefer to grind, then grind, up to you. I prefer to have fun for a longer period of time than get to level 40 asap.

Don`t worry squeakD the rubber band effect is small, it`s obvious for some events and not so for other events.

Because tuning is a big part of GT5 you should take advantage of that, once you spend the money to max out a car you`re gonna win almost every a-spec with ease.

Look ahead what kind of events you`ll face at the next stage and base your decision upon that when you buy a car. Should help alot at the beginning to safe money.
