It's like the crazed mad man who designed the Apollo suddenly had a lapse of sanity and sophistication when he made this car. It's not the ugly brute it's mother. It's like the Apollo is Joan Rivers and the Tornante is Melissa Rivers.

What do you guys think?

Aventador territory .So is it a british design ?

It does looks strange from the side though and doesn't look that fast at the front

Just my 2 cents anyway

Me Likey! We really need a raceclass for all these top notch hypercars now. This, the Huayra, the Agera, the MP4-12C, Avendator, 458 Scuderia and possibly the R8 GT should be converted to racecars and go to Le Mans if there was any justice in the carworld...

I'm interested to see how this looks after a bit of time. With a lot of these small supercar makers, I feel like it takes a while for their styling to grow on me.

I really liked the Apollo to be honest. I don't think this car is ugly, but I definitely preferred the look of the Apollo.

I did to. Richard Hammond discribed some of the older supercars like a 4 year old had designed it. Going back to the Diablo and Countach and the Apollo had that look to it. It There were no round edges. It had that crazy, batmobile look to it. This one is a bit more mature. This one's smooth and most sophisticated. It's literally like someone took the Apollo and just smoothed out all the coolness.

As someone who kind of liked the over-the-top Apollo...this is a step back.

I have to say I think it's a bit boring, very conservative. If it were a regular car I would love it but I don't think it screams supercar...

I also like the Apollo's styling much more than this one, it may have been considered ugly but that car gave instant brand recognition (it could only be a Gumpert!) and the Tornanate is bringing it slightly more into the bland mainstream. Its something Pagani have also got to watch out with because both are going to loose their wacky identity. Spyker seem to still be on cloud nine so that's great!

Robin.

I agree. I liked the function over form look of the Apollo.

This one is okay looking, but it's the performance specs that I'm excited about.

I dig it, I would beg for a little bit more of anger in that front end, it is just boring, looks like they've designed it whilst looking at Kimi Raikkonen's face.

Thank you Audi, for finally giving the greenlight on the Rosemeyer concept! Oh.

It feels like that old concept, mixed with a few Apollo nods (the "mouth"), some Bentley tail lights, and a Corvette rear window. I've never really been a fan of Gumpert in general (though I can definitely respect the performance), and this doesn't do anything to change my opinion. Many other dream cars in it's price range I'd rather have :)

Quoting me from here:

so far, all the supercars of the past months have been pretty damn bland. That McLaren, the shoe-shaped Ferrari, the new Zonda-copy-paste Pagani, and now this. Who will give us something fresh?

Here is yet ANOTHER bland one to the list. Bad, bad, BAD for the supercar world. What's next, a Spyker with no glittery chrome?

Wow. I don't like this at all.

It looks good from that angle, but when you look at the other pictures it looks like a messed up collaboration of several existing models that were put into a blender and then smoothed out with a serrated knife.

Just...go back to the styling of the Apollo; this is just ugly. This coming from someone who likes the radical looks that the smaller manufacturers employ.

The car looks bad and the name's pretty stupid also. The huge diagonal slab above the rear intake is awful.

It is not if you know the history of the name

Wow, I just looked at the rest of the photos for the first time and it really is an ordinary looking car. It's very plain, almost as if it were designed by separate design teams, glued together then blended with a shovel.

Not good at all Gumpert. Not good

That ruined it, in my opinion. A mad man designing the most form-follows-function-inspired supercar out there, with insane power and performance, that was what made the Apollo great, in my opinion.
I loved that design. It was like flipping the bird towards the whole mainstream super car manufacturers.

And that's gone with that Torotanate or Tornatante or whatever. Hell, I can't even remember the name, even though I've read it just 30 seconds ago. Apollo was a better name as well.

I'm guessing it's south-european for this:

a primarily midwestern Phenomina, thus rather exotic to the european tastes.

In my opinion, it's much like Huayra. No matter how cool the name's heritage, if it sounds lame, it is lame (in my opinion).

And, by the way, according to an Italian dictionary, it just means 'hairpin/switchback'. Hardly an awesome name, in my opinion.

The name is spelled wrong in the OP, by the way; it's 'Tornante', not 'Tornanate'. Had to read it multiple times myself to notice it :D

Meh. I preferred the Apollo, that looked completely bat-🤬 crazy. Plus, if you painted it black, you had your very own Batmobile!

That shoe shaped Ferrari is the best looking Ferrari since the Scuderia! Though, I also love the original BMW M Coupe. Shooting brakes are pretty much a win in my book.

On the Spyker note, if you weren't aware, Spyker sold Spyker, so now Spyker just owns Saab, and a British company is building Spykers.

And what would you call that in north-american? :odd:

Anyway, the OP got it wrong. The car's name is "TORNANTE". Apparently that's an italian word for "hairpin" or simply "twisty corner"

EDIT - In any case ... a weak name for a supercar

Not sure that I agree about the Ferrari, I think it's the ugliest Ferrari to be released since its predecessor, the 612.

I've never been a big fan of the "tourer" model in the Ferrari lineup though, as long as the midship V8 and V12 still look good (458 and 599) then I'm happy. Speaking of which, I haven't heard anything about the 599 replacement and when it's supposed to be launched. I've heard whispers about the Enzo replacement but no real details regarding when we will see it

The shoe-Ferrari is the ugliest car I've seen since I saw my neighbor's Nissan Tiida parked downstairs when I got home two hours ago.

And no, I don't know whack about Spyker, but now knowing that, I think we might soon add a new bland car to the already growing list.

I beg to disagree. That's delightful news! For that extra "a" everything changes. Sounds so much better as a tri-syllable, "Tornante". I'm a fan of this car and I'm glad you corrected this.

Say "Gumpert Tornante" quickly, sounds like a machine gun eh? Let's hope this car will resemble one!
