Firstly, Hello
Ive been sim racing for years, since the first ACT Labs serial wheel days... always loved it.
Recently my wife and I built a little arcade at our home, one of the game setups we have is a two car pod of "Initial D, Ver 3".
Initial D was fun for a time, but got old... and... being an old arcade machine, not very reliable... always failing due to one thing or another...
I decided I would rather have the pods 'look like the old arcade game', but function like a modern PC racing sim
Soo.... (I still have some more lipstick I need to put on the rig, this is all the initial build and setup)
I started by gutting both cabs of the old CRTs and old game boards, game units and GD Rom drives. Once I had this complete, a good cleanup and some measuring started.
I have a couple 30 inch Dell Displays (2560x1600) that just happen to fit surprisingly well. I also love how nice they look and feel for color and game play.
Ive got basically 2 of everything below:
i7 2600k cpu
16gb of memory
500gb corsair SSDs
1000 watt psu
multiple fans
powered 10 port USB hub
G27 wheel, peddles and shifter (peddles are setup to hang)
5.1 surround with sub and separate amp and bass transducer
Sim Racing hardware gear selector displays
multiple fans
multiple cathode tubes
micro RF keyboards with trackpads (they work surprisingly well)
dual Aura transducers on each pod (need to update pic showing just the single)
Ill have more pics to add to this thread, the second pod is almost complete multiplayer testing has gone well, both pods working better than expectation
I tend to play both genres of games, from Arcade to full SIM games.
Please feel free to offer ideas of missed hardware, or a different way something should be done
so for some pics
ohhhhh Im also on the list for one of the first Oculus Rift DevKit 2s!!!
I'm building one pod as the US standard, right hand shifter and such and the other pod as the UK standard with a left hand shift...
(my wife and I live in both the US and the UK, I road race in both places) Its nice to be able to retrain the brain to swap from right hand shift to left hand shift in my Skyline.
