Help!

I have replaced the hard drive in my PS3. I didn't have an external hard drive big enough to do a backup of the old hard drive to move to the new hard drive and so before I swapped them over I backed up my save files to the online storage (I'm a Plus user).

The new hard drive is in the PS3, I started up GT5 and after what seemed like an eternity (with updates and installing the game to the hard drive) I was at the front screen ready to play. I quit the game, deleted the save file that it had placed there after the install and downloaded my save file, I started the game again and got as far as the GT5 splash screen with the message about where to find the terms/conditions for online play, I left it for 5 minutes or so and it got no further.

After quitting the game again, I deleted the save off the PS3 and the install of GT5. I started the game again and did the updates, but this time did not install it to the hard drive, game started. I quit the game, deleted the save file that was automatically put there and downloaded my save file. Started the game and got as far as the GT5 online play screen again and got no further.

Has anyone any suggestions on how to get my save file working again?

Sorry, can't help.
I replaced my HDD a while ago now. From 40Gb to 250Gb.
I did a full back-up onto an external HDD and I didn't experience any problems.
Good luck mate.

Your PS3 user account (the name in the menu at the far left of the XMB) needs to be exactly the same as it was before you replaced the HD, otherwise it won't read the save file.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure it is exactly the same, but I'll double check this anyway just incase.

Does GT5 save file show up in the XMB? If so don't delete just go to your online save game hit triangle copy then it should say you have a save game with the same name do you want to overwrite it. Say yes this should copy into your save file.

Panic over, I think the save file might have been corrupted.

I had another save file on a USB stick. I deleted everything and used that save file and the game started as normal, hurrah!

...Don't be sloppy, backup copy :sly:

Thanks to those who responded with advice.
