Awesome site and I hope to become an active member but I have an issue that requires me to come to a legitmate GT5 source to hopefully get a right answer so here goes.

Ok here is something I noticed last night. It seems whenever I have the sound outputting to 5.1 surround, you can hear an "extra" noise on cars at either idle or partially going forward/backing up gradually. It seems to go away when driving at higher speeds, but it just seems to be a small distinct clicking/clatter noise that I hear on every car I at the times I described above.

Well, when I turn off the surround and force it to 2 channel, which is just outputting to my TV speakers, the noise goes away. So my question is this:

Does playing in surround or even having surround as default in the GT5 sound settings, create noises you otherwise wouldn't hear? If so, what the hell is that noise I hear on every car then? Or is this some kind of glitch when playing in 5.1 or higher?

Thanks and hopefully someone can enlighten me if this is a known issue or a normal occurrence.

So no one can help me out with this? It would be appreciated.

Is it a speaker noise or a game noise?

By that I mean, does it sound like a car noise, or does it sound like interference, some sort of problem with the sound? Is it just with GT?

I get a weird clicking noise on all my games at low sound levels (quite points in the game), and I'm pretty sure its because the RCA-out on my TV sucks.

It seems like a car noise to me. And you can only hear it when the 5.1 surround option is on.

Without a video it'd be hard to tell if it's supposed to be there just based on a description.
I definitely have different sounds when at idle or low revs, but they all sound very intentional and correct.

Yea it seems like every car seems to have a sort engine knock when at idle or when slowly moving forward/backwards.

I've noticed a low thumping sound with my system set to 5.1 large theater. It increases in volume and frequency the faster I drive.(long straights). Haven't found a cause for it yet.

bump for any other input

When I use my Turtle Beach headset in 5.1 surround sound I can also hear this clicking noise at low speeds but when I listen with my 2 channel loud speakers the noise isn't there.I speculate that this is yet another bug in the code.

I think I hear it too sometimes but it kind of sounds like a turbo barely spinning. It's only when I'm barely above idle.

I have oddities like this with 5.1 as well. For example, as I'm driving faster and faster, the sound of my own engine stops coming out of my center speaker and only come out of the rear 2 speakers. I'm assuming its because I'm such a fast driver and approaching the sound barrier, but it is probably a bug.

Okay you got my curiosity. Which car? Does it happen with all cars, or just certian ones? Maybe I can check for this noise on my TV.

I've noticed lots of additional small noises (besides exhaust, gear noise and pistons) with various cars at various RPMs. Some cars make valve-tapping sounds, some have headers that you can hear at certain RPMs. It all depends. Some cars even sound as if they've got serpentine belt noise mixed in with their engine samples! Mustang Cobra R comes to mind.

It happens on all cars for me. I am guessing it is a bug in the code if a lot of you are noticing it too. I just play in 2 channel right now with an hdmi and it sounds good enough for me. I don't need the "full" GT experience as long as I can still have fun, lol. Besides, it still sounds damn good just coming through my TV speakers.

I've been dealing with this for a while and figured I did something wrong configuring my system. When I'm running alone, I can't hear my own car sounds, UNTIL I hit the rear view button, then I hear my car.
I run HDMI from PS3 to receiver.

There's an odd sound coming from the Jaguar XJ13, '66. It occurs at mid-high speeds and almost sounds like a tire is going flat, or something is flapping in the wind against the car. It's a kind of a dull thump, thump under the car or behind the car, but it happens at very regular intervals, like maybe once every 1/2 to 1 second. Very annoying. My sound is being output through the tv speakers only so it's not anything to do with 5.1 surround.

You know I had the same weird issues when running in the 5.1 surround mode.
I could not hear my car's engine when racing. I could hear the tire squeal, the brake squeal, the other cars, etc. But, I could not hear my own car engine, unless I looked backward!

I have changed to the 2 channel stereo mode and it works fine now....

I also set the sound settings in the PS3 to dual, where it works with both HDMI and optical output at the same time. Kind of weird.....

I'm not sure what the OP is talking about, but I'm going to go and check for it in a few minutes here. I play it on my 6.1 home theater, and I've always noticed some strange sounds at higher speeds. When turning at high speeds the sound will disappear on one of the front speakers, whichever is on the opposite side of the direction I'm turning. It is most likely the wind noise that does this, but I'd have to check again and be sure that it only occurs when using a camera mounted on the car's exterior (i.e. Roof cam and/or bumper cam).

I'll go and check it out, and come back with a better idea of both possible "issues."

Now this got me wondering if its an added noise associated with LSD install. In my real 240sx, I've installed a 2-Way LSD and it clicks like crazy when turning at low speeds.

My Jag has the same sound, and my Alfa TZ2 Carrozzata da Zagato has it too...

I have never noticed any of these sounds above even when my 5.1 DTS is rockin the house. I will check this out...

Do you actually have a 5.1 speaker system? This exact same thing happened to me when I forgot that I unplugged my rear speakers.

I think it could be an interface problem in 5.1 when using HDMI to output sound to your receiver, i had similar sounds and changed to a toslink to output 5.1 from ps3 to receiver and dont get any unwanted sounds now.
